Catholic church put female ordination on par with sex abuse

    No they haven't really.

There are several crimes in Ireland that can receive the same sentence, but that doesn't mean that we think they are the same.

They have a list of gravest crimes, among them child abuse by priests and ordaining women. It does not follow that both crimes are equally wrong, just that both are condemned by the church.

It's like the way many countries classify heroin and cannabis together, but in reality everyone knows that they are a different level of seriousness.

Godot, please add more than a link to your posts when starting a thread. Users are required to add their own opinion not just link to a site on this forum when starting threads.

You can be excommunicated for sex abuse.
You can also be excommunicated for ordaining a women priest.
Realy, it's as simple as that.

Excommunication is the strongest censure that the Church has.
If the State wishes to prosecute they can do this also.
So Godot, would you be satisfied if they downgraded people doing unauthorized ordinations into just a minor issue?
Then you and whoever wrote that article wouldn't be drawing comparisons on internal Church rules.

Anyway, welcome to boards, look forward to your opinion

    Bullsh1t!!!

Ordination of a female priest is not a "grave" crime. It's sexual discrimination plain and simple. Anywhere else such discrimination is delt with by the courts.

But as wit the abuse of children the church seems to think they are above the law.

It is a vile, sick, cancerous institution and it's exit from existance cannot come soon enough.

I've stopped caring what the Church says. If anyone really believes women priests are even remotely similar to child abuse they're an idiot.

I've long since given up paying any heed to what the RC church does or says, to me it is an irrelevance and anybody raised with Christian values will know that any resemblance between the RC church and Christianity is purely coincidental.
What always intrigues me however, is that an institution that treats Our Lady with awe and reverence, placing her on a pedestal second only to God Himself, treats other members of her sex with what amounts to contempt.
If I was a woman this would be the final insult.

2 Cor 34-35: "Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church."

They are only guidelines, and we do know women are awful for chatter :pac:

If they didn't have control of our schools, I wouldn't give a damn what they thought.

In only my opinion is the Catholic Church, overall, one of great historical forces for good. However, I know, from college lecture notes, that its canon law has positivitly infuenced Western jurisprudence. It is thus entirely within the Church's remit to update its own canon law to deal with female ordination.

Christianity has been one of the great historical forces for good, I don't equate Christianity and the RC church in it's current manifestation. If the Luddite mentality of the Popes back to John XXIII had prevailed, we would still be living in mud huts. As man, I find the mysogynistic attitude of the Church offensive and how so many women accept it,, amazes me. I'm pretty sure if God exists in the form he is portrayed, He would find it offensive too.
Putting aside canon law and the constraints of the RC church, do you really think God, who we are taught created all men (sic) equal, would think of half of mankind as some sort of subspecies? No, women are still being blamed for the creation of original sin, another convenient little myth that does not equate to the concept of Christianity.

If the RCC don't want women priests than thats their remit.

I find it funny the way that RCC bashers who wish for the churches demise bash this practice. Surely seeing as we have a dwindling number of priests you would not want the path cleared for women to fill that role?

Who are we to criticise the Church for their views on unequal treatment of women and paedophilia?

I mean, they know far, far more than us about both subjects...

“People ask me what I think about that woman priest thing. What, a woman priest? Women priests. Great, great. Now there's priests of both sexes I don't listen to.”

If <insert company name here> doesn't want women employees then that's their remit.
