I've found threads of a similar nature here, but I would like clarification on the following situation. I have two minibuses (1998 - 15 seat and 2002 - 17 seat with a GVW of 3500kg) that are not being used for PSV use. They are both on UK registrations and I want to bring them here but need to find out the following:

I assume the VRT is a fixed €50?
These would be DOE tested and not NCT?
No tacho/speed limiter is required on this age of vehicle?
Any other 'gotchas' I need to be aware of?

    Malcolm.

Had similar questions last september when i was asked to get a minibus for a customer, got the run around off every1 even the gards were unsure so i had to call a doe centre and the motor tax office in shannon and after being passed from this person to the next i finally got the right info! DOE is defo as the weight is too much for the nct. i cant remember all the other info correctly so wont tell you incase its not right but i would say call the people i did as they are the ones who know best! Also the vrt could get you for more than €50 somehow. ring the local VRO to confirm as they will make the call

this could of changed but i brought a bus for the family's driving school from the uk. its 50e vrt flat if its a 17 seater or over. might want to ring the vro to double check but it was this way last year. we settled on a 17 seater transit. paid the vrt. doe'd it and taxed it privately as we do not hold a psv license. hope this helps

Just to confirm...you paid 'private' tax, which would be around €1,000 for a 2.5 litre minibus vs €133 for a PSV or Youth/Community 17 seater?

What are the implications of having our minibuses declared as PSV i.e. different test/insurance etc? I have a D1 license.

at the time it would have cost too much to get a psv license for all of the instructors and if i remember correctly the test on the minbus was more stringent but i cant be sure on that. yeah the tax is around the 1000e mark cant remember off the top of my head i don't really have a involvement as such on the running of the driving school.

    hope this helps

What exactly do you mean by PSV licence?

It's not a matter of age, but a matter of what the bus is going to be used for. If for commercial carriage of passengers on random routes, it definitely need tacho and speed limiter.

    That's a interesting matter.
My employer has couple of minibuses (16+1 seaters) and one coach (50 seats)
In the past, they used to be taxed as Youth/Community buses.
Unfortunatley recently they were told it's not possible anymore, and now it has to be taxed as private. To tax it as LPSV they would need a passenger transport licence, which would be an extra cost and would must involve a person with CPC for transport managers.

How does this thing look like with you guys?
Is it really like that, to tax a vehicle as LPSV you need a road transport license.
Because to be honest taxing a 50 seater coach as private with engine of 9.6 litres is but dodgy.

What are the implications of having our minibuses declared as PSV i.e. different test/insurance etc? I have a D1 license.

If you find out please let me know ;)

The minibus i sold was to a local montasori school and the guy who was driving it had to get his Public Service Vehicle licence to drive it.

Is this any addition to driving license category D or D1, or is it just the same thing as above?

As far as I know, there is such thing as SPSV licence, which needs to be obtained by everyone who wants to drive taxi or hackney.
Never heard though about anything extra to D or D1 licence for someone who want's to drive a bus.
