Official complaint against Sky for double billing

Got upgraded to Sky+ on the 30th March.
Sales guy said he needed to change the name on the account for so we could get the free box, took both our DD details for the changeover.

Anyway, box gets installed, everything's fine until my wife checks her account.
She continues to get billed for April, May & half of June before they finally close her account after numerous phonecalls.
All the time I'm paying for the same service so we're getting double billed.
Each month they said that we would be refunded until today I got told that they would not be authorising a refund.
They say salesman who failed to close my wife's account was a independent salesperson & not an agent of Sky.

My question: Is there any higher power I can bring this to for resolution ?.
What's my best course of action or am I screwed.

Your issue is with the agent, not Sky. Sky would not approve of the approach he took to get you signed up. He basically tricked you so he could get commission from Sky for signing up a "new" customer.

What you did was regarded by Sky as fraud-as an existing customer you are not meant to sign up as a new customer simply to get a deal.Even so,the person that signed you up has no way of cancelling any existing accounts and it is up to the original account holder to do so.Very bad form on their part to not even explain that to you.
I know a few people that this happened to,sales person signed up different member of household in order to get latest sky deal and never bothered to tell them they would have to cancel existing sky.Person wouldn't notice until next bank statement showed 2 direct debits going to sky:eek:
I live in the South East and had guys from Dublin,Cork even Louth calling round and trying the same thing-most of em hadn't a clue what they were doing and were basically given a folder of order sheets and sent out to sign up as many customers as possible as quick as possible, useless!!

So this goes on & there's no legal recourse for someone who gets caught double paying.
Is there no legal link between the agent & Sky ?.
Is there an ombudsman who would take up fight in this instance ?.

    Thanks guys, good help.

No. Sky will happily accept two payments from your family. Remember, you had two active subs and were charged accordingly. You never canceled the first one and left it up to the agent. I can sympathise though, but you were tricked by him. He couldn't care less about canceling your original sub - he just wanted your bank details to sign you up again.

No. Only link is that Sky paid him (or the company he was working for) a fee for signing you up. No different than their "signing up a friend" offer. He does not work for Sky.

No, not that I can think of. Sky may be interested, it's just a matter of finding the right person beyond the wall of customer service agents. They were effectively tricked also.

you could even get charged full value for the box. The person signing up this way is committing fraud.

There is legal link between agent and sky, but you would have to prove Sky sanction this. Since they lose money, obviously the agent is at fault, not Sky. Also the customer as the T&C explicitly forbid this.

Sky would probably cancel dealings with agents that did this and sue them also for return of commission paid etc.
