getting repairs out of warranty

    Hi

This is my first post so please be gentle.
I have had the misfortune to have had a cracked head gasket on my toyota avensis diesel and because the mileage is over the 100,000 kms warranty level i am looking at a very sizeable bill. The car was well serviced and had its last service 10,000kms ago. My mechanic friend assures me that a head gasket should not blow on a newish car(2007)that has been serviced and that i should refuse to pay the bill as the problem should be dealt with by the manufacturer (he tells me that toyotas are known to have this problem) . Has anyone got any advice or am i screwed??

Was it serviced as per Toyotas guidlines with the correct consumables? If so you should definitely have a case for a goodwill gesture. If it was serviced outside their dealer network it could be sticky but they have no real right to hold this against you as it is all above board to do that even when under warranty.

Best idea may be to approach who you bought the car from. If you get no joy there try get a mechanics report on the car and approach Toyota directly.

Off topic but there's a load of Toyota problems on here recently...

Toyota have a 3 year/100,000km warranty as far as i know, if the car is out of Warranty you probably have little or no chance of a comeback. Often hear of dealers/manufacturers giving a small donation towards the costs if enough of a deal is made of it! As above really depends where it was serviced all along

i agree, gather ur service history and head to a main dealer, if the car has been serviced properly and with genuine toyota parts then u would have some hope of a goodwill gesture, good luck ;)

I would say if you have a FSH with a main dealer, you should go back to them, i would be surprised if you don't get some sort of goodwill

If you have had all your work done with an indy garage I would say you would be lucky to get anything.
