I know some may think this is more relevant to post in the Television Forum, but I think it might be good for people thinking of taking up outdoor pursuits and may give new ideas to those who are active. Have no idea of the format other than an Irish celeb explores walking trails in Ireland. Could be good though.

I didnt think much of it, seemed to focus more on the two chefs rather than the actual walking trail

I was hoping it would detail the actual walk, show you where to start, distance etc

they showed some lovely scenery but it could've been anywhere, if you decided you like to go to somewhere they showed you wouldnt know where on the trail it was

    pity

dont know why they had two chefs on it

They were probably clutching at straws trying to find Irish "celebs", if they were just going to put in token celebs, I would have preferred Georgia Salpa or something, so at least it would have been something good to look at while they talked crap. :)

It's up on the RTE player now. The first part was ok but the 2nd part was like a Bord Failte advertisement for American tourists. Maybe the next episode might be better (live in hope).

As publicised, the first of the series set off on various walks from the small village of Allihies, towards the tip of the Beara Peninsula in Cork. My wife and I were sitting in Jimmy's pub in Allihies on a Monday night back in April when the whole crew for Tracks and Trails wandered in. Not knowing who they were we just naturally got talking to them. Our conversations with them continued over the next three evenings also, although as I recall, the two chefs left on the Thursday morning, leaving the film crew to get more views of the local scenery on Thursday and Friday. The weather was very good for the whole week so they had loads of footage 'in the can' and I guess it came down to the editor choosing to major on the two chefs rather than the scenery. It would be easy to follow their route by just arriving in Allihies and asking the locals. Obviously, I am very keen to see the programme but RTE in their wisdom have decided not to make it available on the non-Irish version of their RTE player.

Next episode features Diarmuid Gavin cycling the new trail between Newport and Mulraney. There used to be a railway here in the good old days.

They probably use celebs as they think it will be a good selling point to the average joe, I would much rather it was someone who had an interest/knowledge, I'm sure there are people on this forum who would make a better hash of it. Though in saying that the programme Mountains from BBC is done by Griff Rhys Jones, a guy who I can't stand but I thought it was still good.
