VRT questions about a Merc 560 SEC

I've seen a Mercedes Benz 560 SEC on Donedeal.ie that I'm intrested in, but I don't know calculate the VRT. The VRT site doesn't have an SEC in the list, so how do I get the Statistical Code to find out how much the VRT is?

Not sure of the year of the car as it's on a Northern Ireland plate (BNZ 5661). The engine is a 5.6l but isn't the original engine, don't know if the car had a smaller engine when new. Is the VRT rate calculated on the original engine, or the replacement one?

    Ad here: http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1301191

Thanks for any help you can give.

it'll be at 36% rate either way but may be small enough depending on osmp which maybe only 3.5 to 5 k ie say 36% of 4k = 1400

and I know a couple of people interested in that very car. Lovely motor though.

That's for sale for a long time, i'd get a car like that well checked out, nice car though, proper gangster style.
I'd say he'd take a lot less as it's a very hard car to shift if not original.

one of the nicest mercs ive ever seen, they don't make them like this anymore.

I'd say you will need to ring your local Vehicle Registration Office for a VRT quote as the site only quotes for regular type cars.

I'd imagine the VRO will go by what the V5/registration documents say.

That's a beast of a car, but as metioned above it's been on sale a looong time. Tread very careful and have it checked by someone who knows their high power old S Mercs, i.e, not your local Fiesta mechanic.

That would be reasonable, but the VRO mightn't oblige :)

If the price of €3.5k reflects the open market selling price in the UK, I wouldn't be surprised if the VRO slams a lottery OMSP of €8k on it easily, so then you're looking at nearly €3k VRT

Indeed. We are all only guessing here :)

That car has been on adverts.ie for ages..

    Linky

Nice motor, the tax would kill me to pay on that every year though..

Out of interest, how much would tax on a 5.6 litres be? My understanding of the tax is anything over 3.0 litres is €1,300 per year.

Really, how is this country broke with these ridiculous taxes.

    1566 for anything over 3001cc

Yeah it is painful to pay such a high tax for a car. But then we probably pay a less taxes combined compared to the UK (Council taxes etc..). Well that might change in a few years

Cos many people who used to pay these ridiculous taxes have taken their car off the road and have stopped paying these taxes :)

Yeah, going off the idea now lol. €1,566 tax, almost the same again VRT, hassle getting the NCT. Found out it's an 87 reg, so 7 years till the cheap vintage tax.

My Lexus Soarer would have to go first. Hate paying €935 tax for the 2.5, let alone €1,566. VRT process was a pain, swore I'd never do it again  Fill out all the paper work, got my money out and "Oh we don't take cash". Legged it to the Post Office to get postal orders, costing me more money, legged it back to get there before 5:30pm.

Hope that SEC goes to a good home though, probably nothing wrong with it, owner probably just can't afford to run it.

Ah come on. The VRT is a piece of cake if you have an hour. The pain is the money.

@OP. I hate you. I've sworn to myself to stop looking at those motors on carandclassic.co.uk. Very tempted to get a circa 81/82 W126 and leave it out the back 'til cheap tax/ no vrt time comes my way.

Nice motor btw - bit too blinged up for me tho.

    +1

I got a bank draft for the VRT amount was in and out in about 35mins (including an inspection of the car).
