    Hi all,

Have been using an old macbook for music recording on garageband but there is a bit of latency and I have to share it with the wife anyway so I am looking at getting a mac desktop. What ye think of a mac pro Dual 2Ghz, 4GB RAM, 150 GB hdd for recording music? Should do the job easily yes? What price would you put on such a system? Thanks

I'm not sure what it is you are looking for. Mac Pro never had such specs. Do you mean a Power Mac G5?

Sounds like a Power Mac G5 and you cant buy them new anymore - try ebay or buy a new Mac Pro but they are costly

yeah, that's a mac pro (not a G5). This particular model is one of the machines I use at work... absolute workhorse, never a moment of trouble.
It's actually about four years old, rather than two as the link says. (ours has been left on 24/7 since we got it, production machine, and it's still perfect)

Would be perfect for your requirements (really quiet machine)

to answer your question - it's well worth the price he's asking.

Yeah, actually I was mistaken. I thought the Mac Pros started at 2.66GHz, but it was possible to get them built-to-order with 2x2GHz.

Thanks for great replies. I feel more confident I'm not buying a pig in a bag now.

I'm only sick I didn't see that ad before you did! The Mac Pro is a seriously hard working machine with a decent set up along with a strong processor set up. They were built to last and are intended for hard core heavy working programmes. It's one let down is that when it goes bang in 20 years time you won't be able to replace like with like but I'm sure you can live with that :D
