    The iPhone 4 serial number is easy to decode! It’s in this format:

    aabccdddeef
    aa = Factory and Machine ID
    b = Year
    cc = Production Week
    ddd = Unique Identifier
    ee = Colour
    f = size

    Our serial numbers:
    85025xxxA4S (16GB unit we took apart)
    86025xxxA4T (32GB test unit)
    86027xxxA4T (32GB replacement)

    This is good to know, because rumor on the web is that apple is that week 28 iphones on seem to have the antenna issue fixed.

    Week 29, simply tipping against the deathgrip area results in losing 3G and dropping three bars. Looks like that theory is gone.

    Another Week 29 - no dropped calls or losing 3G as of yet ..

    Happy, Happy, Happy!!

    Week 23. No signal issue really unless I go looking for it.

    Proximity sensor issue tho, have been using it last 5 weeks and put people on mute/hold/speaker about 20 times. Never happened with my 3Gs

    It's actually an EU requirement that you are able to at least work out the year of manufacture from the serial number.

    I got that too, phantom email from 1970!

    it is 1970 for a reason, to do with Unix and its Year Zero.

    ( Well thats the technical reason why 1970 is the failed year so often).

    same here week 29 can get the bars to drop from 4 bars 3G to 0 by holding a finger firmly across the antenna gap. It then switches to E and goes back up a to 3 bars of edge though.

    Not had any issues in normal use so far though.
