Iphone 4 Pre-pay O2 / Belfast Query

I'm looking for opineons on what I should do regarding the iPhone 4 launch in ireland that is up and coming soon..

Should I buy the iPhone 4 16gb prepay from an O2 store in Dublin for 619 euro (or whatever similar price it will be here)? Or should I buy it for £499 when belfast apple store gets stock in again?

I want it to be completely sim free so I can chop and change networks when and as new deals come out down here. I know the belfast one will be sim-free, but will the O2 one be locked in any way? (it shouldnt as I'm paying full price!) Are the existing 3GS prepay ones locked?

Or am I missing another way to buy one now, at a reasonable rate (600 ish)

you have no choice here OP, if you want it completely unlocked then you have to buy a sim free version from Belfast or wait for Apple Ireland to release it.

The O2 ones will be locked to O2 and you have to pay 150e credit for them to unlock it.

if you are right in regards to the pre pay price, then it'd be a no brainer to go along with the sim free option, at least that way you have it proper factory unlocked, if you go pre pay, your not on a contract, but its still locked to o2.

go sim free from belfast, plus your buying from apple direct so always good if summat happens with it, you get it replaced or fixed much more easier.

Right so, I guess its off to belfast. Its ridiculous if you pay the full 600 odd to them, and they still lock the phone... when its avail up north sim free for the same price!

Just remember though, this is the first year that apple will be selling the phone sim free, so chances are the pee pay price might drop to encourage people to go pre pay, it was the more attractive option in previous times but now it's changed, there is no way pre pay will cost the same price as sim free, it'd be pretty stupid on 02's part to charge that much

theres a reservation list but im on that over 2 weeks and some are on it longer so you cant just walk in and buy one!

Crap, well I'm on the list, so I guess I'll wait... Could always see if the carriers here are any cheaper as it looks like I'll be waiting just as long!
