Just thought I'd ask - have attached a pic I took on a mag-lev train in Shanghai - surreal experience, total quiet, no vibration and the track banks up when turning corners - the speed at which the buildings fly past is eerie.

Sorry about the quality - crap camera phone

    (430kph:eek:)

T'was a bit strange to say the least - funny thing is, was over there for the F1 - made the race seem a bit deflated!

I can't think of any car that'll be as inherently comfortable at 250 as the ICE. Sure you might get better seats in a Maybach, but it'll still be comparatively cramped and noisy.

Depends on the road more like

270 km/h on Dutch roads would be "comfortable"

270 km/h on German roads is not .. road noise is horrendous.

270 km/h on Belgian roads would sound like a stadium full of vuvuzellas ;)

Plus you can get up and wander around on a train, use the bathroom, get food, drinks etc. Once the novelty has worn off, high-speed Autobahn driving is just tiring. IMO, at least.:)

    only 122mph, quite fast enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 335 ✭✭Redderneck

I got blown out so fast by a cracker called Allison in Marchés in Limerick when I was eighteen, I reckon I had enough momentum to get me through to my early twenties. Does that count?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

About 240 KMH. Quite scary getting there and backed off when I saw how fast the scenery was passing by.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,780 ✭✭✭sentient_6

About 210 km/h in my car on the M6. I won't be testing for repeatability any time soon.

Acutally the I'm quite impressed with the M8, pretty good road IMO, much better than most German roads, on par with Dutch.

135 mph at the age of 10. youghal to cork road

    + 1

I drove to Austria last week and Id have to agree with 100 %, German roads are bloody noisy , as are the Austrian roads.

The Autobahns are made of concrete unlike most other countries which use tarmac, this expalins a lot of the noise.

    about 245 km per hour.

230 km/h on the A7 in Germany, was told later the winter tires that came with the car where rated up to a topspeed of 180 km/h, oops!
Most fun: Blowing past the Polizei at 220 km/h with them going an estimated 120 km/h in their VW Van.
The A7 actually goes all the way from Denmark in the north into Austria in the south.
I feel a race coming on!

    190KpH in own car
    250KpH in mates car
Both on nice dry empty motorway, still felt too fast tbh

Something over 180mph on my old Blackbird. God I miss that bike. Worst was that the guy with me had a brand new Busa which made me look like I was stopped.

Weird sensation doing that speed though, everything coming towards you is already blurred about 300 metres ahead, so you get a little postcard of non-blurred stuff ahead that you have to focus on - tunnel vision literally. Plus the visor of the helmet is normally an inch away from your face is literally squished up against your nose too.
