It's the UMTTIE union. Should have said it on the letter which was sent out confirming the pay cut earlier this week.

Its a 6.7% pay cut along with other cuts.

There's different levels of cuts for, think 6.7% is for senior shop staff (managers and assistant managers). Normal sales assistants are getting a 4.8% decrease and a 5% decrease on a Sunday.

Any sales assistants that started work this year are on min wage so therfore cannot have pay reduced and staff who were paid at the old rate, €9.09 i think, are being brought down to min wage €8.65 which is 6.7% less.

They used to pay 20% extra for sundays, this is been reduced to 5%, not less 5% according to my sources.

Were the union members consulted about this? If not I'd advise join another union.

Doesn't sound like much of a union realy if it isn't communicating with its members. And the OP's friend cannot contact them.

I'm only going on what I read here

Wouldn't think so. Just make sure everything is done right. Let the "new" union know you're leaving the other lot, just to be on the safe side.

How long does xtravision even have left? Are they not basically just a small version of currys or pc world these days?

Wonder if they'll even be around in five years time.

Hope I'm wrong, worked for them for three months when a student back in the day.

From my own experience, changing Union is not that difficult.

I wouldn’t advise doing it as an individual but rather try and gather a large group of co-workers. (That’s the hard bit). :(

The up side of changing representation is the new Union will break it’s back trying to impress you by working extra hard for you

xtravision has gone downhill fast over the years.

They have exclusives on there movies meaning you cannot buy them till they come off it, yet for past 3 weeks in a row, ive been able to buy them in Golden Discs, as they have been late coming of exclusive, because as an xtravision manager told me theres terrible contact between the stores and head management in dublin.

Secondly, I'm into blurays and there selection is absolute sh*t, who ever decides what stores get in should have there balls cut off, they dont have a clue whats popular and whats not. Any other store gets a wide range to suit all tastes.

Exclusives are for renting, not buying afaik.

Blurays selection is so bad because people just don't buy/rent em, speaking solely from my XV shop that's how it works tbh.

    Supply and demand.

Obviously English is not your first language judging by your grammar and your spelling. Think he answered your question fine.
