If they do acknowledge the problem, fair play. Alot of other companies wouldnt do it. Also hoping for a rest of eu iphone launch date :D

Please be a "solution" not a recall!!

I would imagine that the only 'real' solution would be a recall.

Think they might use the 2nd tier launch date announcement to sugar coat the antenna issues. I reckon they will cut the price of the bumpers (they only cost probably 10c to make in china anyway!) and say that the antenna issues only occur in areas of weak signal which isn't their problem, but as good will here's a discount on the bumpers.

Engadget reported that a user sent his iphone 4 away for repair and when it came back the black bezel wasnt as black as before and he could see the sensors on the phone were he couldnt before, the metal also seemed less metal like, overall he reported that the signal issue seemed to be resolved!

however none fo this was verified but sure I suppose we shall have to see what happens tomorrow!

I wonder what they will talk about?

Apple will talk about how well they've done with sales of the iphone 4

and how good the iphone 4 is

    What else

I suspect rather than a recall Apple might offer a free bumper to all iphone buyers..be a lot cheaper than a recall.
Or else they'll show users how to hold it properly ;)

It would be departure from norm if they were to be open about Iphone 4 antenna issues or issues with OS4 when upgrading older phones. I’m thinking they will talk more about how great they are and bit more about new updated OS4.1

It's guaranteed not to be a recall. The "problem", even if it does exist, is nowhere near widespread enough. They'll either try to show that the problem is well within industry standards, extend the returns period to pretend to be giving customers extra benefits (if you have a phone that doesn't work, you'll know within the current 30 days, so extending that to 45, 60, or 90 would not cost Apple anything), offer a discounted bumper with every iPhone, or if they feel they really need to stage a PR offensive over the issue, they may issue a free bumper with every iPhone.

The phone has an annoying fault. The USA is the home of the class action so they will have to offer something. A class action will cost them a lot more that free bumpers. A recall or a full refund would be a disaster for them!

Not really. I think it was the battery on the iPod class action years ago cost them CDN$45 iTunes vouchers per person. Took a few years too, AFAIR.

A class action? You must be joking - it doesn't give you cancer.

They'll admit there's an issue and offer something to get the monkeys off their back until the next big news shifts the attention elsewhere.

Wrong, the fault exists irrespestive of network coverage. It is more pronounced in areas of weak coverage. It is not within industry standards by all accounts.

A recall isn't a runner. They maybe able to issue a field fix - from what people say, a piece of sticky tape can rectify the issue.

Apple will likely modify the build of this model to eliminate the problem. The probelm they have is the returns/ Even the most ardent of "fan boys" is going to want to exchange their older model 4 for the new version. Wouldn't you? Reports sat that at the end of june 1.7m models were sold. The list price is $400? Work out the maths and that's how much it is going to cost them. They could always sell the returns as reconditioned units at a knockdown price and recover some of the cost. Extending the recall period to 90 days will cost them a fortune as every iPhone 4 sold is eligible to go back for a full refund. Apple gamble that most customers will be entirely satisfied and the 30 day money back period is never taken up..

Americans are notious for class actions. There is a big one pending with a Japanese camera manufacturer over an issue with their cameras.

Apple made aware of potential antenna issues in design phase, that will feed the class action frenzy!

Law Offices in the US are already soliciting new Iphone 4 owners

Have a good read. This is capitalism - USA style!
