Weeds in reseeded ground

Hi i reseeded a field about 2 months, with all the dry weather no grass came ,started to come about 2 weeks ago but has been taken over by weeds i think are called red shank. Was hoping 2 take a cut of bales of it and not graze it to save it. Now i am debating topping it and fertilizing again to try and get bales late on in maybe sept, or i am told there is a spray to kill these weeds and not effect grass but that it is very expensive. Any advice welcome ?

had to spray 30 acres of reseed for myself same problem, i used underclear and it cost around 22 euros a acre for spray.

Thanks, does it take long for them to die off ? Do you have to wait for long before you can cut for silage after using it ?

the younger the weed the better and quicker , 14 days withholding period.

redshank is toxic if too much is eaten , also if you make bales off it it weighs very heavy , if you top it it can lie on top of the new grass and kill it , spraying seems to do a good job

Have exactly same problem, reseeded after tillage late April.Spraying not an option as farm is organic so cut it high as possible (about 2.5 inches) Mon morn and wrapped it that evening. Started feeding a couple of unwrapped bales yesterday and today as the grazing ground is getting bare. Cows eating it so far, will keep you posted. It was too heavy an infestation to just top and leave, hoping to get a good clover take.
