Was she an undergrad or a postgrad?

Lots of PhDs in the US come with a stipend. A girl I went to college with went to Harvard for a PhD (maths), I'm doing a med phys PhD in Univ of Texas and I get $26k a year for the 5 years.

I know two people who got undergraduate scholarships to college in the US, the were both sports scholarships (tennis + swimming).

First she would of had impeccable grades, and great after school activities more then likely.

Then she would of applied to the school, and subsequently applied for the scholarship presumably?

Its all on their site I think!

    +1 to all that.

If you don't get accepted you can study for a year there as part of the socrates (so-crates :P) program. Girl I know has just finished a year studying in Berkley by doing it this way :)

Sorry if it's gone a little off-topic, but does anyone have any experience of how successful Irish students have been in applying for humanities PhD programmes at the likes of Yale & Harvard? I'm going into my final year in Trinity, on track for an overall first. The courses there involve 5 or 6 years and they fund you and everything, seems like almost too good to be true! There are some academics working there who I would LOVE to work with, if they were to accept me....
