Hi all, I'm in college at the moment studying computer science and I really want to get some work experience over the summer. Does anyone have any advice or names of places I should try and contact? I'll be doing it for free obviously and I'm based in Dublin. Thanks for your help.

What aspects are you looking for? Networking? Programming? Hardware?

Got my job after doing work experience, best thing ever.

When we had to get it for college we literally sent our CV's with cover letters to every major company we could think of.

Free labor will tempting to someone.

Well I was thinking about hardware, like a repairs centre or something but I'd be interested in programming or networking also.

@The_Goose135: Yeah that was my idea to get something down on my CV for the future and give me some contacts. What kind of experience did you get?

Decide what you want to do. Find companies that do that. Then do a sales pitch of you to them. In the mean while do some projects that demonstrates your skills and that you'd be happy to showcase.

Do a little research and try some small companies, they might be glad of the extra help and remember you in the future.

Well got straight in at 2nd level support, hands on fixing software and hardware issue's. Spent 2 years doing that and got the best hands on learning for the older guys.

Now in third level working on servers, vmware and loads other projects.
Right now pushing out service pack 3 to 4000 pc's across europe.

In my opinion there are 2 choice's Programming or Tech support.
Programming: Always in demand and if your good at it you ll have your choice of jobs. Different languages so be prepared to switch around.

Tech support:Vast area of different technologies and always something needs fixing. Remember 2 thing, reboots can fix the world of issue's :D and be prepared to deal with annoying users.

Depends on the company you get in with but if you work hard enough you'll do grand.

Wake on LAN is your only friend here. SP3 is a nightmare to push out during business hours.

LANDesk software allows us to push it out easily enough.
