    Hi folk's thank's for BOARDS.IE :)
I own a HP Pavilion purchased roughly three years ago at Click Maynooth .
About four month's ago it started acting up . my screen turn's into the matrix , unreadable like snow on an auld TV / it also has three black lines sptitting the view into four !
Been in contact with HP online and been advised to talk to customer service , who want twenty euro for this ?
After reading stories here and elswere i'm thinking it's a fried Nvidia Video card , as it does get hot around the key's "QWER&ASDF" before going haywire .
Have i a case to get repair / refund from point of sale
Saw reconditioned mother boards on Ebay for around 130euro , but am not keen on repair if this is a common problem that is going to come back .
Can anybody advise please . I know a little about PC's and terminoligy .
    Thank's in advance Stuart .

    Hi Stuart,

    I purcahsed the HP Pavilion TX1000 (tx1250ea) in Sept/Oct 2007 (€1,399)

In Nov '09 I had the same issues.

After a lot (& I mean a lot of reaserch) I found out that the defect (the GPU overheating & mealting the solder) was worldwide & affecting a family of HP laptops.

HP deny any issue exists

Here is a good resource for ya:

Sorry for the short response but I'm in a little bit of a rush but will post later tonight.

    Regrads

I'm going through the same issue with a dv9288ea at the moment.

    Read: www.nvidiadefect.com

Basically, you're highly likely to get a refund/replacement if you're bothered to go to the small claims court.

Post on the forum above and you'll get pointed in the right direction as to how about getting a refund/replacement (they're awfully helpful folk there).

    Not necessarily true.

The forum is great, it is mainly a UK forum & the Sale of Goods & Supply of Services Act 1980 in Ireland has different criteria etc, I contacted the Consumer association today seeking information regarding this.

In my case (which admittedly is probably slightly different from most), I have been advised to write to the MD of HP Irl - Martin Murphy explaining my case. I purchased my laptop from a store that has since gone out of business.

I am looking to take HP to the small claims court as they are the producers of this product.

I am hoping to build up a list of people who have bought these laptops & try to get strength in numbers in order to force HP to admit the issue & hold them accountable for selling a defective product (they ware aware of the issue prior to Sept 007 but fail to admit it.)

HP had done a recall on other laptops in the range with the same chipset/GPU combination but not the TX or DV.

There is a wealth of information about this issue which has just begun to emerge in recent months thanks in no small part to Wayne Sallee (google : Wayne Sallee hp)

Most of the machines affected were sold in 2007 & early 2008.

If anyone has any interest in coming together to try get satisfaction from HP, PM me.

    Regards

    James

own a dv9565ea for 3 years now and a few things failed:
    1) rj45 failed so i can only connect using wifi or usb
    2) mic
    3) was trying to connect my headphones and the soundcard port is not working anymore? ookey...

When i turn it on it sounds like an airplain is taking off somewhere nearby; it produces so much heat that i don't use any electricity anymore as it keeps my appartment warm :D

All in all i am going to get rid of this peace of HP as soon as possible as i have a feeling it is going to call it a day anytime now
