    Thanks stc
postage from uk can be costly on the bulky items and sadly my german supplier has gone out of business

still find Barker way expensive compared to uk prices
    RIP-OFF Ireland!

what do you find barker expensive for

i buy permajet papers from him and its cheaper than buying from the uk

or example a 44 inch roll of oyster is 175euro from barkers and 165stg from warehouseexpress

i guess it depends what your buying. there are some cheap canvases and papers available in th uk which people dont bring here, but most of them are rubbish

as for shipping, my framing supplies company that i use in the uk, if i order more than 150stg worth of stuff shipping is free anyway

so it kind of depends who you deal with etc

You can also get canvas from JM Photo and Stewzarts photo, both the same price, I usually just buy from which ever one is en route at the particular time I need it. Stretcher bars, now thats when it gets harder, some insist you buy in bulk, Stewarts do the wonder bars, they are good but very heavy and expensive compared to others. I have also come across a fella recently who supplies to Harvey Normans, he makes the bars but rather than a hollow frame he has a stickky back on it so the canvas is laid onto the back front and then stapled at the back, not so much stretching required.

I'll route out his contact details tomorrow if you need them.

whoa, dont stick canvas down, deff not like described either

you need specialist kit and knowledge to stick canvas down, and if the frame is wood it will move and do damage

These are stretchers made for canvas, I havent used the myself, saw them last week. Its basically the stretcher frame, mounted on top is a thin sheet of wood that has some sort of adhesive on it, not a strong adhesive as if you place it wrong you can lift it again, then you staple at the back as you would with normal stretchers. These are the ones supplied to Harvey normans.

well you know what the canvases look like from harvey normans

but anything with adhesive on a streched canvas stops it moving correctly, and is a bad thing

lol, true. It was shown to me with the intent of having the edges white so the image would just be on the front, you know yourself Im fussy enough about the image being wrapped around. Mind it seems like a good concept, the idea like, and I wouldnt mind giving it a try to see what I think. I may try it out though with a canvas for my own house rather than for a client, just to be sure I really like it.

i now make my own stretcher frames, and they do have wedges

i have seen this system before racheal, they are used in cheap and cheerful places. the point of them is to make it easier to stretch, for people who dont know how to do it

i have seen some really awful results. you can generally see the board underneath etc. i wouldnt touch them with a barge pole,

I respect your opinion Steve and may trust you on that. The ease of stretching was mentioned. Mind I'm a fool for a salesman too!

    http://www.kmevans.com/

Art supplies, you will get the bars much cheaper there. They supply stuff for mainly 3rd level art students.
