    Hi There

No expert here, but often on here as well as other places on the net, a 1-2lb weekly weight loss is said to be possible & optimal. Rapid weight loss is almost always not recommended. So I would say that in 6 weeks if you could achieve 2lbs per week, you would be there or there about.

However it will not be just a matter of speed walking for 5 miles daily. To lose weight and by weight I assume body fat rather then lean muscle, The most important thing will be your diet and that you are eating less calories per day/week then you expend. The "Toned" look you speak of is achieved by burning off body fat to let you muscle show ;)

So IMHO to have the best chance of meeting your target you will need to
    • Have a good idea of how many calories you need each day to maintain your current weight
    • Have a good idea of how many calories you are currently eating
What you need is to have a calories deficit of around 500 calories daily. This should give you a weekly weight loss of at least 1lb per week.

Another thing I found helped me personally stay lean was cutting down drastically on starchy carbs (breads, pasta, rice, potato's etc). The only starch based carbs I eat now are 20g of Oats for breakfast and 2 Oat cakes with Peanut butter at around 09:00 as a snack. After this any carbs I eat come mainly from veg and some fruit.

Again this is what worked for me, and of course we are all different. But I have read of quite a number of folks having similar success with a similar eating strategy.

Also on the exercise front, I would encourage you to mix things up a bit. Your body will get used to the speed walking, so maybe throw in some short sharp intervals some days. i.e. run the length of a football pitch as fast as you can, then walk back to recover then go again. Do this 8 to 10 times. Try to build up to sprinting up and back (2 lengths) keeping the recovery the same.

Also check out the Home Workout Thread here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055964941 for some more ideas of workouts that you can do at home with little or no equipment.

Again IMHO you will get the best bang for your buck with a varied workout routine and good diet.

If you want diet advice, then post up a typical days food/liquid intake (in a much detail as possible) and folks will point out any tweaks you might want to consider.

    Best Regards,

    M

Yes you can easily lose a stone in the timeframe given.
    Don't buy slendertone.
Is speed walking the things grannies do when they flail their arms all over the place? If so there are better options out there.
Sit ups won't tone your stomach.

Read B-Builders post and do it.
No more asking, just do it.
    Like the Nike ad says.

PS: Why do people always want to lose 6.35 kilos?
Does the word stone just have a ring to it?
PPS: When are we all going to start adapting the metric system?

Don't let it put you off...they groan at me as well.

Of course you can. Unfortunately the speed walking and the weights are only one side of the equation...you need to create a calorie defecit significant enough over that period to shift the stone you are looking to lose...that's the hard bit.
And will sit ups actually tone my stomach?
No...but when you shed the stone of flab they'll certainly look better.
    Should i invest in slendertone?
Are they really an investment? As far as investments go I'd say you are better plowing your spare cash into Anglo.
Do you think i should do walks in evening too??

    Thanks!
From the sounds of it you should get a job delivering leaflets...you could be a professional athlete...walk all day and all night and get paid for it.

Sounds like you've plenty of exercise planned...get the diet under control and you should be on a winner.

    Hi Again

Can I ask where you got your figures from?

Again let me reiterate I am no expert. And don't be misled by my forum name, it's just the name I chose for the forum, not my hobby, occupation etc. I am however a 47 yr old male, 5' 6" and weigh 12 st @ 11% body fat and there is no way I could be considered over weight. I actually intend to try and get to around 13 st at similar body fat.

So to me at least, 11 st for a 6' individual seems like you would look fairly skinny. Also I think that you should be focusing on dropping body fat rather than weight. You might find that you could look good at around 14 st once you had low double digit body fat. IMHO having a higher % of lean tissue to fat is far more healthier than some arbitrary number on a weighing scales.

    Just my 2 cents

Sorry Ignore the above. Like d'Oracle I should have ascertained your sex before replying, and judging by the Avatar on your profile I am going to guess female. So what I wrote above probably doesn't apply.

Again apologies for my quick assumptions :o

That's an important bit of info. :)
The only help I can offer is a firm "good luck & stick to it".
    Not much use really....

    No.
Its just that I wasn't sure, sorry.
I'm starting to feeling uncomfortable now.
It was more that if you were a bloke, being 6' and 11 stone would be very light indeed.

Your best bet is to pay attention to what Will said.
Tighten up your diet and get your exercise in.

    do squats help tone?

Honestly there is no magic bullet. Squats are a compound exercise, they work a number of muscle groups and are an excellent exercise for legs and glutes.

However I think when folks talk about being "toned" I think what they are talking about is lowering their body fat and allowing the natural muscle definition to show through.

So IMHO the main thing to get right will be your diet. Then the exercises you do will help you create the calorie deficit required to burn fat and build some muscle, which will give you the "Toned" look.
