Just like I'd hoped, peace and quite. You leave the moderating to me marcuspheonix. When I close a thread I mean it to stay closed ok?;)

    Anywho...

The first home 'console' game I ever played was one of those a generic pong machine's. Mind blowing at the time of course! First arcade was a cocktail defender in wexford I think, sometime in the mid 80's...

First game I ever played was pacman on my uncle's atari 2600. In hindsight, I couldn't have picked a worse game (that's not a shot at pacman, just the dreadful 2600 conversion). Loved it at the time though, and led to me getting a NES off santa.

It was either the soccer game, or a game of bong, on a 16" black and white TV, with I think was a Magnavox Odyssey 4000? Looks like it, but some buttons on it were a bit different. Maybe a cheaper clone. 8 basic games on a cartridge. Fun times were had with that. I do believe that was the only console that I played on for a long period of time, other than maybe the PS1. 386 ftw!

Contra in an arcade in the Airport. Maybe that's why I love hard games.

I honestly can't remember what the first game I ever played was, but I can remember the first games I've ever owned. Got a Gameboy for christmas back in then early 90's, with Tetris and Fortress Of Fear. Although I spent a lot of time trying to nab my Gameboy back off my sisters before they ran the batteries dead with Tetris, Fortress Of Fear was the fisrt game to really grab my heart. Spent an unhealthy amount of my childhood playing that one.

First game I played was ridge racer on the ps1 when I was about 5 and got the ps1 off Santa. Couldn't steer for my life and ended up facing walls most of the time but I loved it none the less.

    Hard to remember
In the arcade was Double Dragon(the 1st one) in a games room on the side of a pub in wexford!
At home I cant remember but it was either on the Spectrum 48k(probably booty or jetpack) or the Rowtron games system(pong clone or something)

It was either Yar's Revenge on the Atari 2600 or Punchy on the ZX Spectrum, I'm not too sure. It was the 80s and I was young! :D

First arcade game I'm pretty sure was Operation Wolf.

in the arcade it would have been Space Invaders or Pac-Man

at home it was when i visited my cousins in England in '79 and their mate had an Atari with Gun Fight, i had just turned 6

I just mentioned I'd been playing it recently in another thread. Credit up, 30 seconds later GAME OVER. They sure dont make them like they used too!

The Atari 2600 seemed to have been the platform of choice before the outbreak of personel computers in the early 80's. I owned a c64 and a speccy although Arcades have always been closest to my heart.

Anyone else get a strange feeling when someone says the first game they remember in Sonic? ;)

One of the games on a pong console, probably Pong as the rest were crap.

The arcade version is regarded as the easiest of the series other than super contra on the NES :) It's funny now to read reviews of Megaman 2 saying it's one of the hardest games ever made when it was criticised when it came out for being too easy.

I'm fairly sure it was a game called Mountain King on an Atari. I still remember the music from it.

Can't remember which one of these classics I played first! Got them with a Nes for Christmas back in the day. I do remember my sister being better at me with the light gun and getting quite upset at the time... Oh the nostalgia...

Now that I think about it, I can also remember playing Bomb Jack on a cocktail cabinet in a hotel in Killiney. That may predate Operation Wolf as my first arcade game :)

I think it was pacman, one of those cocktail cabinet versions in 86 or 87.

My first true addiction though was the TMNT cabinet in 89 or 90 =)

Mine like most of the old fogies was pong on a pong clone called the Universum Multi-Spiel-Color A, catchy name eh!

The console looked like this but it also had a gun:

    pong-umsca.jpg

In the arcade my first and best game was Pac Land! I can still remember all the hidden tricks even though I havent played it in 20 years! Ah the memories, back when 10p went somewhere!

I'm the same. The locations of the hat, skips , baloons and extra lives have been burnt into my memory. I will always remember playing the c64 version and being so disappointed that they took most of that stuff out. Brilliant game :pac:

super mario bros on the NES. my brother received it as a gift from Santa Claus, and i fondly remember countless hours stuck in front of the television, eyes glued to the little man jumping from block to block. a wonderful way to begin a lifelong passion for gaming

Damn man, I feel so old! :D

Mine was some pinball game on the A2600 - have never found the exact one to this day, not even sure what it was called (knowing Atari, it was prob called Pinball) - but I'd love to fire it up for a min on an emu and see how fuzzy/bad my memory of it is...

RR in a sit down cab was bliss. I remember one on an Irish Ferries boat YEARS ago, RR2, full sit down cab complete with manual gears if wanted...that was some piece of kit. I'd love an RR sit down cab, but NEVER seen one for sale in the wild :(

Nothing is better than the triple screen F355 setup complete with clutch pedal and open-gate shifter. Myself and my mates used to play that for ages in our local arcade. Plus it had the VMU slot so you could connect your dreamcast save times.

Sounds sweet! Never even set eyes on one...

    Damn, must...resist...urge...to...shop...for....driving cab :(

PS - if anyone sees a Ridge Racer cab for sale - ALERT ME IMMEDIATELY :D:D

Does that A2600 pinball game ring a bell with anyone? Mmm a description, well it had blocks, within blocks...oh and the ball was a small block

Bray bowling alley had a Ridge Racer sit down cab for years. Not sure if It's still there as I tend to avoid the place as much as possible.

I do remember about 5 years ago I heard that they had a load of cabs down in a basement and were selling them off for 100 each and a game. Urban legend? Possibly. Always meant to investigate that one further.

Was a favourite of mine in the arcade as a kid.

First games for me were probably on the VIC-20... so most likely Trap or Gorf.

Earliest arcade game I can remember might have been Spy Hunter. Although I have early memories of Paper Boy and Star Wars too.
