Educating the AH Massive : Communication

ok so we all communicate right, we talk to people, friends, family, work colleagues etc., even if you're so shy, lazy or socially inept that your communication is limited to text, emails or skype messages the following still applies

Are you generally an instigator or generally a receptor?

Of course the mongs will argue that it depends on the context i.e. when you're with your friends you are Socialite extraordinaire but outside of that fluffy bubble (poor collocation i'll grant you!) you are so muted a goose wouldn't even boo you.

    So returning to the principle:

Are you an instigator? You'll generally start conversation, make small talk, ask people how they are, inquire about the trivialities of their life, show a bit of interest (even if you don't really have any, you are doing this twenty questions act out of respect and as a social courtesy)

or Are you perhaps generally a receptor? Happy in silence, little to say for yourself, show no interest in your fellow man YET get some warped ego boost when a friend/acquaintance/colleague asks you about your rather boring, nothing-to-say-for-yourself-unless-asked-and-now-I-know-why-you-don't-say-much-because-when-you-do-it's-unbearably-dull life.

Instigators generally have positive energy while receptors will drag a room/party/group down with their relentless vaccuum where opinions/questions/charisma should be

Instigators are generally warm/generous/interesting/thoughful human beings

Receptors are generally selfish/insecure/hateful/sad excuses for human beings

In a group you usually have a mix of both, sometimes the receptors will be magically bestowed a higher social status as they may be perceived as being secretive or playing hard to get when in reality there is nothing to get.

Instigators ensure a good time is had, receptors ensure the good time will be hard work

It takes just one receptor in a group for the group to feel uncomfortable/awkward

It takes at least one instigator in a group for that group to have any kind of meaningful communication

Lesson 1 in educating the AH massive has now concluded

    I guess I'm a "receptor."

tl;dr? Donfers is having a sex change operation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,554 ✭✭✭✭alwaysadub

    Thanks for that.

    What if you're a in-betweener?

I don't fit either of them!

OP did you create this theory yourself? It's friggin' terrible. And the term 'AH Massive' indicates that you're not an intellectual anyway.

    I'm confused........Is this a joke.

Neither instigator nor receptor, I am a communicative fidgiter.

Do I need to point out the failure of defining people in two separate and rigid patterns? The world isn't so black & white.

    I'm neither.

If the OP is indicative of the kind of bull**** that instigators like to spout, then I think I would prefer to be a receptor.

im mostly the first one but i still like people asking me about myself

A receptor would have to listen to the bull**** I'm afraid.
A good rule of thumb in communications is to know your audience. It seems for the communications lecturer, in this case donfers, has no idea what the hell AH is here for or who his audience in fact is. This is probably the best indicator of how useful the OP is to us. IE, about as much use as a chocolate teapot.
Here's a graph of the concept.

I've never understood the shameful denegration of the concept oft referred to as " a chocolate teapot"

surely it's of great use to those who enjoy chocolate and thus must not be rendered obsolete or used in reference to vainglorious pursuits

again I can see some novelty in this, like the player who actually throws the perfect dart that bursts the dartboard wins, some darts would inevitably bounce out and you'd have that wonderful shock value of the board exploding, potentially enthralling stuff

nice to see a lot of instigators on this page finding solutions to what receptors might consider intractable problems, generous in thought and deed and an example to us all

that means you want to listen to more of my theories rather than come up with your own, 400 enlightening pm's sent

No, I think what he's saying is that he'd rather not subject posters to the bullshìt in the OP.

As the OP, you obviously see yourself as an 'instigator' then, however the condescending, know-it-all tone (Lesson 1 in educating the AH massive has now concluded) of your post would suggest you infact meet the description (your own the description that is) of what a receptor is. The latter part of the description particularly

That's rude and poorly researched, you obviously aren't aware of my debut album "I can be everything"

I'm a 'Receptor' in work. They drained my soul years ago.

I'm an 'Instigator' everywhere else, though I'm not exactly the most outgoing person you'll ever meet.

Im definitely an "instigator". I actually have a rule with my best bud-the 5 Question Rule!

I looooove meetin new people and am often found wafflin to anyone and everyone at parties/events.But...the rule is...if its a shy/quiet..or ignorant person i ask them 5 questions. Not all of a sudden (thats just weird) but when chattin and you get either monosyllable answers, no reply or the other person basically looks bored outta their tree....move on!

I get sick and tired trying with some people who just couldnt be bothered gettin to know me. So...ye know what...i couldnt care less if they want to or not and move on .Try it!

I'm a firestarter, a trouble maker and a fúcking instigator rolled into one.

Out of John and Edward, which one would you reckon is the receptor? ;)

I brought a young one out on a date a few weeks back and she wouldn't talk at all. I had more fun with her hotter looking Cousin and friend for the night. I didn't even bring her home but that was her choice. Painful stuff.
