Does anyone have a view on Santander. They appear to have escaped a lot of the carnage and are taking advantage of the enforced sell off of branches by other banks. Any positives v negatives would be greatly appreciated.

Even with my local knowledge, I can only just about understand the likes of Allied Irish Bank and Bank of Ireland. Now, considering that Santander have operations all over the world, are exposed to all sort of funky countries like Argentina and Spain, and are 10 times larger than AIB or BOI; I would be codding myself to think that I could value Santander.

I think it'd take several months of research to establish whether Santander is even worth investing in, or not. I think there are more compelling opportunities out there that require a heck of a lot less research.
