Alfa Romeo 159?

Hi! Looking for some advice on the Alfa Romeo 159. I know about Alfa's dodgy reliability reputation, but the reviews I've read suggest that with the 159 they've, er, turned the corner!! I@m also aware of the poor residuals (but then, what car doesn't have bad residuals these days!!) It looks stunning, but wondering is it practical for a small family? Hope to hear from 159 owners and others on what it's like. Thanks.

We have a good few diesels on our fleet and the only issues we've had are:

The Power Steering pump on a 2007 model (about 70,000km) went a couple of months ago. Covered under warranty by Alfa.

The plastic cover on the top of the boot struts has broken on about half of them. Pain in the a$$ rather than being a problem. Means the boot flies all the way back with nothing to stop it.

Lovely looking car, but there isn't a huge amount of space in the back for a growing family, and the boot opening isn't huge to fit a buggy in to.

Not a great family car IMO as space is limited in the back and the boot is tight as mentioned. Also driving behind a family member in his 159 with 2 adults, a baby and a 2 year old the car was bottoming out on undulating county roads, and not at speed either. Owner also complained of uncomfortable seats compared to his previous 156. Reliability has been good but servicing can be expensive.

Take one for a test drive.. you'll buy it!

I have one as a 'family car'. The roof at the rear is a bit low. You have to watch a child/toddlers head when putting/taking them in/out of child-seat.

The room for adult legs in the rear is a bit tight too.

    The Boot/Trunk is big/fine.

Watch for Red ATX fluid in steering reservoir/pumps. Factory mistake, Green fluid is good, red is bad.

-1.9JTDm diesel issues alright with swirl pots and EGR....
-2.2 JTS can have stretched timing chain.

-2.4JTDm is the one to go for. 200 horses. :)
Would you consider a SportsWagon version?

Thought the 2.4 was sluggish and the 1.9 was more nippy and the one to go for (was looking maybe a year ago) - although im sure a remap would sort that out :pac:
