belfast has more than it's fair share of animals, sub-species.

My wife is originally from Belfast and would even say the same about many of her extended family.

In general, despite demographic or background a massive proportion of folk from Belfast have a huge chip on their shoulders, it must be surgically attached in the maternity hospitals.

This over-riding sense of whinging and mantra of being persecuted (from all sides) is the reason why pictures like these will always be in our papers.

In this day and age, to have a bunch of childish men demanding the right to walk down a road to have a bigoted picnic is bad enough .. but equally the reaction of the other side is just as childish.

If they ignored the marches you'd find that less and less would turn up to march year after year .. eventually ending with one or two mad men walking on the hard shoulder on their own.

But unfortuantly many of the population up there feel they need confrontation and oppositon .. they would have a void in life with out it.

If the local elected representives spent half as much time in westminster sticking up for the rights of their communites as opposed to arguing locally about who can paint what on walls and footpaths the whole province would be a better place.

All I can see is a illegal street party with a bunch of knackers and a bonfire in the middle of a road. Then a bunch of drunks sitting on the bonnet of a slow moving car and some ugly bint surrounded by either piss or beer on the ground without a single scratch on her.

Has anybody here actually been hit by a low speed car? It doesn't look like that and you don't look like that afterwords.

I know this is way off-topic for Motors, but those marches through nationalist areas aren't about picnics. IMO their purpose is straight-up intimidation.

I was sort of speaking tongue in cheek, but I do accept your point.

Really what I wanted to get at was the stupiditiy of the whole affair . and the fact that everything is about the almost need for intimidation and confrontation

Im from Belfast myself, to be perfectly honest the atmosphere at those bonfires is pretty similar to St Paddys day in Dublin, Im sure everyone would be absolutely horrified if this incident happened at a St Patricks street party and you were to see people from the North posting broad generalised and negative opinions the people at that party.

I dont see how this thread is related to motors, other than the fact a car (which we have no information on) was used.
