My little present

Ok I've bf whose birthday it is today. I cannot go see him as he lives in a different country, this is not why I am writing on here. It may seem stupid to others but to me it is important that is why I am writing this.

I sent a small present to him by post. It is only a dvd and it will play on the dvd player he has. He doesn't have many friends who buy him stuff for his birthday, from what I have heard from him today, his mum gave him some money and his brother is buying him something when my bf can think of something he would like. My bf told me today that he bought himself a blu ray player and cinema sound system for the blu ray and also a box set of blu ray dvds.

I got upset, but he didn't hear me cry as I did only after we finished chatting.I only work a small job and have to pay my rent, bills etc. but I do not have the money to buy big things for him and when I heard what he got, although it is nice for him to have and am pleased for him, my present pales in significance to the blu ray things he is getting.

Have you been in similar situations? My bf does not know how I feel and I don't want him to make him feel bad especially on his birthday.

    Thanks for reading

Aww I'm sure he'll love it, a DVD is a DVD, and personally bluray doesnt look any different to me.

It's the thought that counts - it's a nice surprise. He bought the other DVD's himself, thats not a surprise. Plus its coming all the way from you, in another country, and it can play on his DVD player.

I'd be delighted with that. :)

The blue ray player is something he has bought himself. I sure he loves the fact that you remembered his birthday and made the effort to send him a present.

If someone did that for me I'd be thrilled. Chip up, I'm sure loved it.

    spot on...

now when he watches the dvd you bought him he'll think of YOU (though he should be doing that anyway! ;))

Its always the thought that counts, not the price tag.. don't be worrying!

There's no need to cry, really. He would have been thrilled with your gift. All the blue-ray stuff he's getting, he's buying for himself.

Just to let you know.. my friend's husband used to always buy her big extravagent gifts for birthdays and christmas (telly, car (small, 2nd hand, but still a car) etc..

She hated it! She said she never had anything to "open". And after finding out how much debt he put himself into over the years of trying to buy her big presents, told him all she ever wanted was a cd or a dvd something small, wrapped so she could open it. So now his presents are much small, and cheaper, and she's much happier!
