Desire - music problems

Having problems with the music player on my Desire. Tracks keep skipping, jumping around, pausing without touching the controls. It's pretty unusable as a music player really.
Seems to be related to the headphone jack, if i fiddle with it it goes crazy. Get the same problems using stock player or Doubletwist which makes me think it's a hardware issue. Anyone else have this problem?

yeah figured as much. hate the thought of having to return something though, that's usually when things really start going wrong.

Have you tried installing any 3rd party music players like mixzing or tunewiki?

Ar you using the supplied headphones? I'd ditch them and get a pair of Sennheisers, you'll lose the controls but at least you can enjoy your music.

I had same problem with Milestone, loose headphone socket made music cut out sometimes (via software, not because the connection was broken). Desire works fine tho, was using Sennheisers with both.

ye only started using the music player on mine when I got an aux connection installed in my car and it is showing the same problem. Downloaded a couple of other players and same problem occurred

Why, don't you ask for a replacement model then, second one should hopefully be fault free. They might try and pawn you off by saying your only allowed replacement within 30 days, our something, but that's B.S.. Under consumer law, your entitled to repair, replacement our refund for faulty goods, and its not tied to an arbitrary period like 30 days. The desire is new enough that it should still be running entirely fault free, so you should be fully entitled to replacement if proves faulty.

have tried supplied headphones, pair of skullcandy and an aux line in from my home surround sound system. No difference.

If i had the phone replaced would everything get transferred by using the same SD card or would I lose some stuff?

ok i found the problem after reading this post : http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/topic/60933-htc-desire-music-player-problems/

looks like it's down to the desire switching between headphone and headset. i tried it again and sure enough every time the song skips the little headphone symbol changes to a headset.

the solution in the post is to change the headphone cable to one that the desire doesn't have a problem with.

I wonder if I can force the phone to always use the headphone connection. At least it's not a hardware issue and I don't have to return the phone.

It's definitely something to do with the cable being used or the 3.5mm port. At a guess i'd say what's going on is that the cable that connects the microphone is loose and keeps breaking its connection.

To be honest, you're better off getting it replaced. Try a different pair of headphones and see if it's any better.

I'm having the same problem mainly when I use 3rd party ear-phone {2 pole, HTC onces are 3 pole}.

It will skip, launch a different "music" play, etc.

Since going back to just the HTC headphone the only issue I have now is it randomly stops {think it's a crash because my RunKeeper app also closes} and when I can the music app up again it "paused" at a older section of the song/podcast.

I'm hoping it's a software, not hardware issue and the Froyo will fix it... :/
