    Hi there lads,
I have a recently renovated an old cottage but the boiler system was only changed about 10 years ago was getting very little use and was running fine up to recently. Not living in the house yet and i went to turn the heat on to get ready for a timber floor but when I switch on the heat the light on the switch is on but theres no life in the boiler. What does this usually mean? Thanks

1.....it could be airlocked as in no oil in tank if so get oil and bleeding srew bolt will be close to wer the flexable oil line enters the burner.2..... it could be on lockout if so theres a red light on the front of the burner press it and it should go. or 3....it could be the high limit stat if so theres 2 knobs on ur thermostat 1 4 controlling the temp the others a cover with a reset button under it screw off this knob/cap and reset trip...... if its none of the above youll need to explain more!!!

Just to add, ensure there is power going to boiler.

If there is, if could be as johnjoe described. if you have power going through stat to burner, it is not the overheat stat. Check red reset light on burner.

As the lads said. Try those tests first.

Dose it actuaty fire for 10 seconds and then go out? did you vent the oil line?

The fuel pump could be faulty or if it fires for a bit and goes out the photo cell could be dirty or faulty.

I think you should call some one in to take a look.
