Character References for getting into Blackhall

I finally got my Indenture Pack and now have to go through the rigmarole of gathering all the bits and pieces to apply for PPC1. I need to get two character references from people "of some standing", who have known me for 2 years and are not employment references. What sort of people are those of standing? I know a Garda would be one... but I really don't know anyone like that. Any advice?

Could I ask a friend of mine that is a journalist?

Also, what do they need to put in the reference? Just that I'm honest and hardworking i suppose yeah....

My job is deferred so not entering Blackhall this year, there I cannot answer definitively. However, people of standing tend to be people like doctors, solicitors, barristers, teachers (including lecturers) and the clergy.

One of mine is a civil servant the other a primary school teacher. At this stage i think someone of standing is anyone with a job. I'd have issues with the clergy having standing whereas as i'm sure a lot would have them top of the pile. Law Soc trainee section are very helpful. (i've only sent in my form, hasn't been accepted yet)

There is a thread for PPC1 here

It is up to oneself in terms of who they ask to be a character reference - not that it makes alot of difference as it is a formality moreso than anything. However, I could almost guarantee you that the clergy are one of the people with standing that the law society would accept. Which is the issue at hand.

A look at who can witness a passport application is probably of use to the OP in terms of working out who they know that they might ask:
    1. Gardaí
    2. Member of Clergy
    3. Lawyer
    4. Bank Manager
    5. Elected Public Representative.
    6. Medical Doctor
    7. Notary Public/Commissioner for Oaths
    8. Peace Commissioner
    9. School Principal/Vice Principal
    10. Accountant.

Hi there, you don't need to order an original birthcert. They accept a photocopy of your original as long as you get it signed by a solicitor saying it's a certified copy of the original! :)
