Volcano rebooking

Trying to rebook the return flight from France that Aer Lingus cancelled, rebooked and cancelled at the time of the volcano - I knew at the time that I'd have to go back to France this summer, but not exactly when.

They said at the time that you could rebook; they now say you had to do it within a fortnight of the cancellation.

I was combing the news in April/May, and don't remember this ever being said; if it had been, I would have chosen a random date and rebooked then.

They are now offering me a refund, and of course I and my travelling companion would also be able to demand the refund of the €500+ it cost us to return on trains and ferry at that time.

Can anyone else remember them mentioning this two-week time limit?

I think that they have to refund your travel costs - that is the €500 that it cost you to get home, plus the cost of your flight. You should phone them on this one. I don't think there is a two-week cut off date on this - the two-week thing might be just if you wanted to rebook your flight.

I did phone them - they were very nice, but said to write to Customer Relations.

What I'm curious about is the fortnight business - I certainly don't remember this at the time. Do you?

It's odd; rebooking me on a flight back from France now would cost them only €100. I can't understand why they're being so weird about this.

Most airlines only gave a short window to rebook in - similar to any disruption. You could hardly expect them to leave it open ended forevermore, surely?
