    Hi there,

Is there any coverage maps for DTT coverage now or planned for launch?

Im planning to buy a box off ebay but dont want to waste my cash unless their is coverage in my area.

    Thanks for the help.

Wait till November. Then there is actually a service and there then may be maps. They will be adding to coverage over the next 2 years and coverage may be greater in 2013 due to power increases.

Unless you really know what you are buying wait till there are Saorview certified boxes. As a minimum the box should have HDMI and SCART outputs and do HD as well as SD H.264 MPEG4

There is no rush. Equipment will be more compatible and cheaper.

Why don't you tell us where you're from instead? Somebody from your locality will let you know the likelihood of it working.

    Hi Guys,

My father lives in Oranmore in Galway. What's the likelyhood of DTT working at present here? Also is there any advantage in waiting as Watty says above? Will combo boxes be cheaper?

You wont know if you have DTT reception unless you try.

Plenty of places that have unwatchable analogue reception have picture perfect digital.

i'd recommend that you try and get your hands on a cheap MPEG4 dtt box and try it out.

the sagem picnic box's are cheap.. i picked some up before for £10 +p&p
worked out at about €25 all in all

With a proper setup, no problem getting DTT there from Maghara at all.

Im living North of Castlerea in Co Roscommon.

I was picking up Cairn hill with my aerial in the loft with so so reception. Today I took the aerial down and stuck it onto a post in the garden.

The Aerial is no where near as high as it was in the loft so my reception from Cairn Hill is almost non existent.

However I am picking up a very strong signal on TV3 and TG4 from the Truskmore transmitter. Im delighted with the signal quality but I just cant receive RTE 1 or 2.

Are they testing DTT from Truskmore and would I be likely to pick up a DTT signal considering im receiving quite a strong signal already?

Thanks for the advice and help all.

That's because the analogue RTÉs are beeing trasmitted on VHF band from Truskmore. Your aerial is most probably a UHF one.

Yes (on channel53 on UHF) and yes.
