If i buy a commercial vehicle up north does automatically qualify as same down here????

This is one of the most frequently asked questions on the 4x4 forum http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1068

You wont get it in for €50 VRT. The vast majority of crew cab 4x4s are liable for 13.5% VRT as their load beds and carrying capacity aren't big enough. The only crew cab that is €50 out of the box is a Defender 130 although some new jap 4x4s were uprated by the importers here (can't recall which ones).

Once it's re-registered you can road tax it a commercial (totally separate issue to VRT) although you may be asked for proof of VAT and that you have the employees who need the seats.

    Yes, strange but true
In theory you can get done though if the revenue catching you using for non-commercial purposes but there's thousands out there doing it.

You can also commercialise an Irish registered passenger 4x4 far more easily than an imported one, the DOE requirements are different and less onerous to the VRT ones. Typical cack handed way of doing things here.

It's worth asking around for other's experiences, think it varies between VRO offices. Check out that link and have a browse, if you see something you like, ask again there.
