a few years ago i bought a set of JVC HA-NC80's. over the ear headphones. nearly 4 years later and i have had no problems at all. the ear cups are comfortable ( i wear them for 3-4 hours at a time usually) the sound is brilliant. the noise cancelling when turned on actually drowns out the sound of the plane engines (speaking from experiance). at the time thay cost me 80euro but now iv seen them goin for as little as 45. really good bass sound from them aswell. 3.5mm jack and also in the pack came an adaptor to use on the plane (no need to hand out a small fortune for the in flight headphones :) ). an alternative is to buy monster beats studios or solos. i have never listenend to anything like them but they are way out of my price range. hope this can be of some help. congrats on the wedding aswell. im sure the ear-phones will drown out the endless nagging your in for:p :D

The problem is that there aren't really any reasonably priced headphone dealers convenient to Ireland, and most of the reviewed pairs are common in the USA but nigh on unobtainable across the Atlantic.

EBay may well be your best bet. I suggest the Sony MDR-V6, Audio Technica ATH-M50, JVC HA-M750, Denon AH-D1001, AKG K81dj, Shure SRH440.
