    Hi all,

I'm thinking of buying a road bike from Holcross.com. A couple of friends have bought mountain bikes from this site and have recommended it. I have been out cycling on my mountain bike on the wicklow mountains but that bike is old and rubbish.

I now want to get a road bike for longer journeys but know little about them. What I'm unsure about is the quality of the bikes because I have looked at established bike companies and the prices are in the thousands, the prices of the two bikes im interested in is around £200. These are the bikes:

    http://www.holcros.com/viking-road-fixed-wheel.html
    http://www.holcros.com/viking-sprint-1.html

Can anyone tell me if these bikes are any good I'm really looking for a starter bike and I'll upgrade if I really get into it. The price is what is really attracting me as I'm currently out of work and on the dole.

    Thanks for all the help.

Cant say anything about them particular bikes but the black one is a fixed gear bike i.e only one gear so not that good for long spins!

I would look for something secondhand. You will get better value.

Thanks Blorg, but will I get a good secondhand bike for around £200?

agree with blorg. if you cant get a secondhand one for €200 what do you think the quality of the new for €200 would be like. you might need to go to 250 300, but for 300, you'd get a great starter bike with far better components then the ones your looking at.

check adverts and dondeal, though i saw a few for that price range today.
