Cancelling Sky Question

    Hi Everyone,

    Have two quick questions:
Currently with Sky Digital - reduced my package a few months ago but have had enough of being ripped off now and with no incentive (for existing customers) to upgrade to Sky+ or +HD without having to fork out more.

So now want to look at cancelling my Sky completely as I can get a decent package with UPC for a lot less than what I currenly pay Sky.

With Sky approx 4 years so out of contract - whats the best way to cancel - call or write - anyone had the experience of cancelling?
Also what happens with the Digibox and Sat are they collected or left?

    Thanks in advance

If you are sure you want to cancel, Phone Sky give them a months notice to cancel. They will try everything to keep you as a customer. You own the box and dish, When your months viewing is finished take out your sky card from the box turn off the power to the box when you switch back on the box you will receive about 30 to 50 decant free to air channels.

you can check now what channels you will have, by doing what scaller suggested,

if you remove the card and plug out the box, then plug in again ,it should load up the channels available, bbc1 on 101, bbc2 on 102 , etc..

RTE can be got via aerial in most areas, so you should be covered..

Give them the reason your cancelling and see if they give you the same offer as new customers get,it sometimes works-no harm in asking. It's worked for a good few people if they've had sky for a few years and threathened to cancel because the existing customer offers are terrible compared to what new customers get.

I got offered a 20% discount for a year when I cancelled last month. I already had my other option setup so I was not interested.

He said that he could offer me more to stay - so you may get a bargain.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I tried that route when a lot of people were being offered discounts to stay a few months ago - but it never worked so I just reduced my package.

Not sure if I’ll be giving them reason as to why I’m cancelling - chances are even if they do give 20% discount for say 6 months, when it comes to January next year it will go back up along with the September increase and the Vat increase...no thanks :eek

if I'm reading into correclty I should be able to get a decent package from UPC and multiroom (x2 rooms) for near enough the same if not a bit less wach month

    Cheers again

they will offer you loads once you say your cancelling, i cancelled mine last week, resisted temptation to stay though even though the offers were good. apparentley they get a decent commision for getting peeps to stay!
