he is not irish at all and hasn't got an ounce of irish blood in him. even if he does have a distant great great irish grandfather, he still has no interest in anything irish.

I am sure that Magma's comment is tongue in cheeky.

Your comment seems strangle though - first you say that he doesnt have an "ounce" of Irish blood, then you make it clear you havent a clue if he has Irish blood or not!

Then you say "he still has no interest in anything irish" how the fúck do you know what his interests are?

I know he isn't Irish (although it wouldn't surprise me if he has some Irish blood in him.) I put the word "Irish" in inverted commas for a reason. :P

I was only thinking the other day of opening a thread on this lad, as I've been quite impressed by him for a while now.

One thing for sure is if this fella has no Irish blood in him I'm a monkey's uncle. Walk down any street in Ireland and you'll see ten lookalikes. Just cos his name is Mexican doesn't mean he goes back 100 generations Yaqui Indian!
Danny 'Little Red' Lopez had an Irish mother and like Alvarez didn't look remotely Mexican with his pale skin and ginger mop.

Anyway, back to his boxing. This kid could be the real deal. While he has a very strong, pugnacious physical appearance of a slugger, he's a very quick, smart boxer with a good punch in either hand and a cool head on such young shoulders. Although he was rocked in his first round against Cotto, that was purely a balance issue when Cotto's hook landed just as he was throwing his, giving the 'double power' effect. The commentators went overboard in stating how hurt he was, but I honestly thought he wasn't hurt at all, which showed a good chin to me.

I'm expecting big things of him in the next year or two.

I'm Irish and we are not ugly people, well a few of us..lol, not many of Irish people have red/ginger hair, i'm pale with dark hair as is a lot of others in my family only a few in my family has red hair, Saul Alvarez is not Irish, I heard it's not that rare in Mexico for people to have red hair, If he has Irish or Scottish blood somewhere down the line so bloody what? but i doubt it.. anyways Saul Alvarez is only 21 and has a great record, hes going to get better and will be huge name in the sport in the next year or two, hes Fighting on 17th September against Alfonso Gomez as the Undercard for the Maywather vs Ortiz Fight..:D:cool:;)

He might come here looking for his roots...

Who knows he might kiss the blarney castle. Better than dodging bullets in Mexico anyway.
