Just went past buzz tv and it's showing channel no longer available on MMDS. Are we that lucky that it's gone? It's still broadcasting though

Could we be this lucky?! EPG is 'Channel no longer avaialble' for all of tomorrow - though an'ad' is still showing - hopefully 'Smile' will follow suit shortly and UPC will never again inflict such junk on the viewing public.

Is Smile TV owned by the same company??

I remember smile showing old lucy shows with a buzz logo in the corner - really professional set up!!

Hopefully soon to go as well and then UPC might get around to cleaning up the EPG.

Btw Euronews Portugal is also gone from 835....at least that service had merit

Why do UPC give all the different languages on Euronews their own channel. Would it not be easier to have the different audio tracks on the one channel?

Does UPC have red button options these days??

According to Magnet one of the reasons they dropped Euronews was Euronews' insistence that they carry indivdual language channels rather then having a single channel with multiple soundtracks for the customer to choose from.

Ironically they have a red button service on EuroNews!

Good to see the end of Buzz and Smile.

Red button only available on some STBs - UPC still have not delivered interactive services.

    Smile TV is still on...unfortunately.....

Still on Dublin EPG - something called the 'chat show' is on at €2 a minute !

UPC should hold their heads in shame - when you consider the channels UPC have taken off due to lack of viewership !!

Totally agree. They removed flaunt tv, then the only gay music channel, as viewership was too low. I know I was not alone in my protest against this decision. Buzz must have been added as a commercial interest for UPC, ESP considering it's position between core channels and their +1. Perhaps another shake up for the EPG is on the cards.

both channels are being removed by upc.

    and should be gone tomorrow

I am in Dublin. They got paid by the channel owners for those slots unlike other under preforming channels which they often have to pay for.

That is retarded. Why didn't they purchase an individual slot on Sky for each of their languages.

I find that hard to beleive.

They were only re-broadcasts of the psychic tv channels all over Sky, but as they were never popular I guess, UPC removed them as soon as the contract allowed.

    many things.
God, Quantum Mechanics, Eating some brand of food can make you slim, Cell phone cancer.

Some of these, though hard. I believe. Others I don't.

I also find it hard to believe

Of course we don't know if Elmo has misunderstood Magnet, or if someone in Magnet made it up or misunderstood someone else in Magnet, or if Euronews really said this, or that there's something strange about "language selection" on Magnet compared to Satellite. On satellite there is one video feed and multiple language channels only for Audio.

Look I did some research about TV channels and from that I asked about EuroNews, Magnet told me that the reasons they dropped EuroNews was its low viewership, value for money and EuroNews' insistence that individual language channels had to be broadcast on the Magnet's EPG rather than selecting a soundtrack. I asked about EuroNews specifically. Now as Watty said perhaps that was all blah.

Anyway its neither here nor there.

Buzz TV and Smile TV paid UPC for 131 and 132. Unlike most cable channels which ask for money to be on an EPG. I can only come to this conclusion as it seems strange that those types of channels ended up so far up the list.

Finally both are now gone from the EPG - what chance a clean up of the EPG ? Put the ITV's together, the +1's back beside the main channel etc

I asked rory to confirm and he wouldn't. :(

However the next question for magnet is do they provide any language other than English. So far the answer is no.

Why, would Magnet lie to me about it?

Im not sure what I didn't confirm here? Maybe I can give you a PM once I get a response from the TV dept?

On 10 July, 2010 Buzz TV and its sister channel Smile TV were removed from UPC EPG while the website www.buzztv.ie was removed from the internet.

My reasoning behind Magnet not having EuroNews. Thanks for your reply. PM is fine.
