No to any French cars as the cars value will bomb , if you want a diesel get a VW or Ford!

Isn't the 1.6 diesel engine in Fords a PSA unit?

I have 05 C4 over 100k miles and still going well (1.6 110hp). Well spec, confortable and service is cheap. You will get over 700miles between your tank fill ups depending on your driving. Tax will be cheap with 08 models too.

    I to have a 05 C4 1.6HDI (90). Its done 122000km, I've had no problems at all. Getting 1200km for a 60 litre tank

But if you buy a car that's a few years old that's had it's value bomb, would that not be a plus point? Buying a high-depreciation car second hand generally means that you're getting good value surely?

Look, in my experience and opinion all French car brands are absolute crap and im not alone in this. A waste of cash buying new, and second hand ones only for people on ultra low budgets. If you want a decent car new or used, buy German or Jap, and after that a Ford. Avoid French and Italian cars. That's my two cents. You pays your money, you takes your choice!:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Every Make/Model can have there faults....It's about getting a well maintained diesel which has been well serviced with the correct oil and within it'sservice intervals.
The 1.6hdi psa units are used in Peugeot..Citroen..Ford..Volvo..Mazda...
so only two of the above are french...:)

These are a great little engine which share the same type variable vane garrett turbo as vw..audi..seat..skoda for years.

Like most modern diesels today its very important that these engines are well
serviced as the sump on these have only a 3.5 litres capacity.
These also need a fully syn low ash engine oil which is dpf friendly.

Garrett supply 99% of there turbo's to various makes models.
bosch..siemons..denso..pierburg.delphi...etc sensors are shared on most makes/models.
Psa are using porsche auto boxes for the last ten years which are a great box once there maintained.

The biggest concerns/outlays for modern diesels today are...
1)Failing Dual mass flywheels...these can cause problems from 100,000mls onwards.
2)Diesel particle filters...Cars fitted with dpf's are not really suited to town driving as they need a motorway trip every 2-300mls to ensure they carry out dpf regenerations...psa replace dpf's with an additive topup 100,000mls onwards.

Vw..toyota..ford..etc have been having trouble with dual mass flywheels for the last few years and now that these makes are now fitting partical filters on there diesel moderns this is another potential expense in the furture.

Going back to the op's question....
The c4's are a cracking looking car and if fitted with a 1.6hdi (110bhp) you'll have a fast..economical..comfortable motor....but...as above depreciation plays hell with Citroens..
    Best of luck...;)
