    Hi,

I'm just looking for feedback on why current members of the catholic church chose to live such a life? I am currently in what I would call a "Transitional" period of my life and the way of a Christian Brother appeals to me very much despite all the bad press they have been receiving over the past number of years.

If there are people here who have been, are becoming or are currently serving God in this or any other related way, any feedback would be much appreciated. It is probably not the platform to ask such a question but have done my usual searches on the internet and can't find anything positive and relevant to my situation in Ireland - Single, early 30's, professional, spiritually lost, etc., etc..

I do intend on visiting my local monastery to find more information but thought if anyone on boards could shed some light beforehand it would be much appreciated. Also, Mods, if this has been a topic in a previous thread please close and refer me to that thread, I have done a quick search within this sub-forum and couldn't find anything related unfortunately.

    Regards,

    Engelbert

Not sure that we currently have any priests or nuns posting. The two nuns we did have posting recently don't any longer for one reason or another. The closest we have is PDN who is a Pentecostal pastor.

Perhaps you could try going on a brief retreat to somewhere like Genstal Abbey to test the waters, so to speak.

I never knew about two nuns posting! Where did they go?? Gosh would have loved to hear what they had to say and to have spoken with them online..

Hi Engelbert, I remember recently seeing a program about the life of nuns and brothers....I saw a lovely sister who was the principal of the junior school I attended, Sister Kathleen, was her name, and the program she was on was all about how 'awful' the life was according to a 'big brother ' sleb, and in fairness the girl didn't say it was all that bad, just put it down to a time gone by....she's a 'media' figure now! She went to Loreto! and it wasn't a life for her..

...but amidst the drama, they interviewed a lady I actually knew, Sister Kathleen, and she was just..well...'wow'..! I remember her, and I wouldn't have expected anything else from her, she fit the bill and was a lovely person....she seemed very happy with her life choice, although, she did say ( and looking back to my youth as a school starter etc. ) that her family were astonished at her choice, and it was difficult for her, but she never regretted it..She was soooooooo special...

She left an impression on me, and I knew her from when I was only 'four', and recognised her years later on a reality 'ahem' TV show, and more importantly recognised something else about how special she was and how at peace she seemed..

A truely lovely person, I have to say..but it is a 'huge' calling! so really think carefully about it, and consider it..

    Best of luck..

Another bit of infor for you, OP. Back in '05 the BBC commissioned a programme entitled The Monastery. It is a three part series following 5 volunteers from all walks of life as they enter into Worth Abbey, a Benedictine Monastery, for 40 days and nights.
