    welcome to boards :)

as far as i know, i don't think you can switch from pass to honours. you can only drop down to pass.

but here's the link for the syllabus anyway - http://www.maths.nuigalway.ie/cstudents/syllabus/

i think that there'd be stuff covered in first year honours that wouldn't be in pass and this would make it very difficult in 2nd year if you could go to honours.

AFAIK, when you go into 2 year arts maths is split into Mathematics and Mathematical studies. Not sure which is the honours one.

But, from talking to my mates in arts, I think if you got over 60% in pass in 1 year you can go into the subject which would be like honours ie the harder one.

    Hey,
For arts students maths in 2nd year is divided into three...

    a) Mathematics (Honours)
    b) Mathematical Science
    c) Applied Mathematical Science.

Now the first one is just honours, Applied Mathematical Science is pass level while Mathematical Science is both...whether you get an honours or pass degree depends on your results I've been told.

You need to get over 60% in 1st year honours to be allowed to straight into the honours course. If you pass 1st honours, dont get 60% you can do Mathematical Science. Here, as I said before, you can still get an honours degree depending on results.
I think people that do sufficently well in 1st year Pass Maths can get into Mathematical Science also. I dont know what the cut-off point is though...

Just after finding the links now...should explain it better than me!!;)
