Windows 7 keeps rearranging my desktop

We've recently upgraded to Win7 in work.

I like to keep the files I use often on the right of the desktop and the files I use less on the left of the desktop. However my "right" files keep randomly jumping over to the left, and it's a right pain when I'm looking for something. It's not set to autoarrange.

Any ideas how to get things to stay were I put them?

    Cheers in advance.

    Right click on the desktop
    Select 'Personalize'
Click 'change desktop icons' (top left)
Un-select 'allow themes to change desktop icons'

Not sure it will work, but worth a try?

I'd highly recommend Fences! You can organise your icons in different "Fences".

The basic version is free and does essentially what you require. I have my desktop littered with frequently used journals and articles, and I find it very useful to keep stuff organised.

    Hope that helps :)

Just a quick note, ultramon does the same thing with the added features perfect for multiple monitors. (save and restore desktop position)

I use the full version of "Fences" myself and find it solves this problem and more easily.

Fences is great been using it for quite a while now but lately nearly every time I go to my desktop it hides the icons and its a real pain.

Is there any alternative and free software that would give the option of permanently displaying the icons. winxp.

I've been using deskview for years now, great for decluttering a desktop. Just not so great if you don't have good eyesight :P
