I'm a bit terrible at things like make up and I only heard about this product quite recently. From what I gather it's supposed to make eyeshadow last longer and make it "pop". Does it actually work as well as it's supposed to? Can anyone recommend any brands?

I use the Gosh Velvet Touch Foundation Primer, which is actually for your face, but I use it on my eyes too.

Gosh have a separate eye-primer, which is like the one I use, only the eye-primer is specifically for the eyes.

I've heard good reports about the Urban Decay eye potion and the Smashbox photo finish primer (think thats what the Smashbox one is called anyway lol).

A girl in my local pharmacy tried the Clinque one on me and I found it good tbh, it' jsut pricey, €28 for a small compact.

On the Clinique website though, it is priced at £10 pounds, so I don't know how/why it's €28 euros here.

    Hope this helps.

I've heard good reports about the Urban Decay eye potion

I'd definitely recommend Urban Decay Primer Potion. I can't say it really makes eyes 'pop', but it DEFINITELY makes your eyeshadow last ages. It won't budge with this stuff. I bought a UD eyeshadow palette last year and got a mini UDPP free. It's gone now so I bought the full size one during the week. It's €18 in Debenhams.

I like the Smashbox one - when you put eyeshadow on over it you get a much truer colour than just putting the shadow straight on your eyelid. I tried a Benefit one before but found it muted the shadow colours a bit. Urban Decay have a gorgeous one called Sin that I often use for nights out:

I prefer the Smashbox one for daytime because I think it makes your eyeshadow last longer than any other I've tried - it's a thicker consistency than the UD one.

+1 for this! I bought a bottle of this in the States! I've loved it since! My eyeshadow would stay on till the next morning if I didn't wash my face before going to bed! :)

I don't use a specific eye primer, but I do use the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer and find it excellent. Not only does it really prolong the life of my make up, but it also helps my eye shadow stay on for much longer than usual. Plus it helps prevent that line that often shows up after a while, but you will need to check it after a few hours.

I would recommend Benefit lemon aid. It has the added advantage of covering any redness etc.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance! I think you can get it in Debenhams on Henry Street or House of Fraser in Dundrum (I got mine in Spain when I was there so I'm not sure!) I got the Urban Decay one with a pallete and I thought it was good but I LOVE my Shadow Insurance!

I love Urban Decay Primer Potion, even really cheap eyeshadows look good over it. MAC paintpots are great too for intensifying the colour, or GOSH waterproof eyeliner sticks.

I totally agree Urban Decay primer potion is really good and MAC paintpots. I'm also a big fan of the smashbox primer, although it is a bit exspensive but worth it.

I use Benefit lemon aid as a primer, and it does keep your eyeshadow on for longer.

If you want to make the colours 'pop', you need to use a dark primer. Eyeshadows tend to look different on darker skin than it does on pale skin. If you cover your eyelid with MAC shadestick in sharkskin or Barry M eyeshadow pencil in black and then put a brightly coloured eyeshad on top the colour should be more intense than if you applied the eyeshadow on bare skin or pale primer.

And it means you get more than one look out of the same eyeshadow! Win/win :D

I've asked around and everyone recommended Urban Decay Primer Potion.

I can't afford it at the moment though. Boo.

Urban Decay primer potion is brilliant. Makes my shadow look really bright and stays on for literally 24 hours. I've fallen asleep in my make up and woken up with it perfectly applied still!

Quick tip though - when I run out of my primer and am broke, I get a cheap concealer stick (about 2 euro from essence) and use that in place of primer. Works just as well.

I use gosh velvet touch face primer, and then on my eyelids, i use a paintpot (painterly) from MAC.

Benefit Lemon Aid is really good. I wear it even when I'm not wearing eyeshadow, cause it really brightens your eyes!

The urban decay primer is the only piece of make up I'll spend proper money on and its worth every cent. I've had eyeshadow on and still looking good for a day and a half before and you can use really cheap eyehadow and get quality results. Cant recomend it enough. I know a girl who switched from mac to esence for everything but her face and eye primer (smashbox & urban decay respectivly) and she still looks the same. Goes to show you dont need to spend a fortune on makeup just have a good foundation :)

I swear by Urban Decay Primer Potion, it's amazing! It really makes the colors pop and prevents creasing.

Gosh have a separate eye-primer, which is like the one I use, only the eye-primer is specifically for the eyes.

I have this one. It's absolutely CRAP. It's so greasey going on the skin. I put my Smashbox primer on, then my foundation and then put the Gosh primer on my eyes, but it rubbed my foundation off and when I tried to apply the eyeshadow the brush got greasy and it was really really hard to get it to stick onto my eyelid.

When I had my Urban Decay one, it didn't do this, went on really easy and quick and definitely lasted longer than the Gosh one. So all in all, Urban Decay for eyes, Smashbox for face!

I like the Smashbox eye lid primer. I think it makes my eye shadow last longer and not crease. I'd definitely recommend it.

UD Primer Potion is fantastic! It sets the eyeshadow perfectly so it will last all night and brilliant for sparkly eyeshadow!

I would recommend Essence (in Debenham's/Dunnes). It I think it's a gloss as opposed to primer but it works the next same way! It's only about €2.50 and its unreal! Would definitely try it if you don't want to spend a fortune on one!
