    Hi all,

Just wondering is it best to go on bill with 02 or Vodafone to get the best out the iphone as opposed to going payg?

Also should I hold off until the Iphone 4 comes out or is the current iphone just as good?

    Thanks

If it was me, I would wait until the new iphone 4 comes out.

As for price plans i dont think there is much of a choice, it depends how you use your phone. I dont text at all, however i spend a lot of time online so I find the 2Gb data bundle on vodafone handy

    Thanks for the reply.

Say if I were to buy the 3gs this weekend would I be able to get an upgrade to the iphone 4 down the line with either Vodafone or o2 or do I have to be with them a certain amount of time to qualify for that?

I went for the 3Gs a few weeks ago as I wasnt bothered waiting or the new one. Nothing new on it made it worth the wait for me.

On o2 you will be eligible for an upgrade after 12 months.

And chances are, the iPhone 5 will be out around this time next year, so if you're not pushed about the iPhone 4's features, there's no harm in buying now. The 3GS is still a very good device. Advantages of the 4 are higher resolution screen, gyroscope, slightly faster, front facing camera, upgraded main camera and added flash, and upgraded looks. If these don't mean much to you, then no harm in going with the 3Gs. I have a 3GS and love it. If I was buying fresh now, I'd personally wait fit the 4, but I wouldn't bother upgrading from what I have. I'll wait till the next version fir that.

As for bill pay vs PAYG, it all depends on how you use your phone. On Vodafone, PAYG costs 99 cent a day for cellular data (wi-fi is free), so that's potentially 28 to 32 euro month for data, plus calls and texts. For me it was better value to go with Voda's 45 euro bill plan, with 2GB data and enough calls and texts bundled that I don't usually have to pay much more than that. The fact that you can use your bundled data roaming abroad was a big plus for me, from what I remember, roaming data gets expensive on PAYG. not sure what O2's policy is.

Best thing to do is sit down and estimate how much it will cost you, over 18 months, to buy and run the phone on each option. Then you'll see which is best value for you.

If it was me I'd wait till the iPhone 4 which is arriving soon and has video calls.

i sold my 3gs last week.
am on the reserved list for a 4 in Belfast.

IP4 has the better camera, screen, facetime (only between ip4's and only on wifi), only slightly, very slightly faster than the 3GS (from vids on you tube).

but has the dodgy reception surrounding it, may only affect some phones, but im picking up a brand new 3GS this week and i think im gona stick with that until IP5 or the 4GS!

on the network side of things, whatever you pick, try get a data bundle, if even a small one, ie 250mb per month to judge your useage as data is expensive outside of bundles.

    Thanks guys for the insight.

Going to get an unlocked one and go with the meteor €30 a month plan with the 1gb download limit. Should be enough for me.

Why did you sell a 3gs to buy another?

i got one on a spur of the moment kinda thing at a good price. used it for a week and liked it. i was then able to sell it making a decent profit. in the meantime i reserved an IP4 but last month i woulda gave my right arm for a 3GS so im thinking why spend all that money on an IP4?

i would love the better camera and flash and the HD movie capture but truth be told i have a decent dedicated camera and i have a mini HD camcorder so i dont really "need" them.

ive been saving for a few months to buy a sim free iPhone so im still kinda stuck in two minds. i have a brand new 3GS comming to me this week if everything falls into place, so if i get that i will be happy.

if that falls through or the IP4 is released before hand and theres no sign of the 3GS arriving then i will get the 4, feck it!

Also does an iPhone stay connected to the internet all the time so it receives emails etc?

How much on average monthly do people download? I would just be viewing pages not much downloading of songs etc.
