A new iPhone will ease the pain while I wait for the iPad.

Looking likely the 28th of July is when they will launch iPhone 4. Telefonica Spain have tweeted that they are launching it on that date, they like us are in the second batch of countries getting it, plus o2 are owned by Telefonica so even more confirmation:

Translation anybody?! Canada is expecting it on 23rd July - so looks like a staggereed "July" release.

Would prefer it to come out on the Monday to be honest! I'm busy on the Friday so would probably miss out for 3-4 weeks if you don't get it on launch day!

there's not really giving people much time to pre order are they?

If it's gonna be the 28th, that's two weeks wednesday, i doubt there'll be many people stumping up the guts of 800euro for a 32gb device sim free if they don't give them some more time to gather the money!

Due my upgrade on the 29th. Rang O2 and asked if iPhone was released on the 28th, could I get my upgrade then? Was told no. Out of contract also so nothing to stop me going to Vodafone for it, but bit peeved as I've been on O2 for about 4 years.

Don't get me wrong I am as excited about the iphone 4 as the next person, but should we be so excited given the cockup they made with the antennae issues...?

Should we not hold out for a decent fix?

Yeah, it's been on my mind a lot. In the rush and excitement of it all it is worth bearing in mind.

The problem should be hurting the US customers more. AT&T is a notoriously bad provider. iPhone users had problems even before the antennae issues arose.

I doubt that it will be as big of a problem here, and besides, Apple have (sort of) addressed the issue, with a (possible) fix coming in a few weeks.

can someone thats with 02 explain the likes of the silver/gold upgrades for me please, afaik no other operator over these.
by getting one how much cheaper do you get a mobile compared to a new customer.

I cancelled my contract last week and when I logged in a few days ago I also had a gold upgrade.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86 ✭✭RedLegend

Sounds like o2 are bumping up customers upgrade status to get more people to buy the new iPhone and onto 18 month iPhone contracts methinks! Didn't AT&T do something similar in the states? Another indication of an imminent iPhone 4 release. Fingers crossed inallinanyways!

Silver upgrade is basic upgrade after 12 months. You get any phone for the same price as a new customer.

Gold upgrade is up to 50 euro off a new phone.

Your upgrade is dependent on your spend in the last 12 calendar months with O2. ie. if you had a big bill in May 2009, it now doesn't count towards your upgrade status. It's got nothing to do with length of time you're with them.

Really hope it's coming out on 28th as said before. Now to get anonymous O2 employee to confirm!

so if the 28th is the next release of the batch down here, then surely they will have micro sims available in o2/vf etc on their sim free models?

The 24th was confirmed to me by a staff member today, who'd been given documentation on it. My name has also been taken for a waiting list too.

    UGH! ****!

28th of July is like a week before my due date for my thesis....We're just gonna be flogging out phones in CPW! :(

Am I like the only person not happy about this?! :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,766 ✭✭✭robbie1876

Fair enough, I'm just curious about the waiting list cos I've been told by a couple of 02 stores that there is none! Come on the day and take your chances is what they are telling me, but I don't buy it.

Asked a woman in o2 in Limerick today. She said that due to the stock levels, stores around europe are only getting 16% of the the phones ordered.

She also said that because of this, it will be unlikely that we will be able to pre-order the phone.

    Jaysus.

Is this a deliberate tactic by Apple to drum up hype about the phone?

Removed?? Why?? They can't do that. Even if you just opted out of contract it states that there is NO PENALTY for doing so. I would be on the phone to 02 asking why your upgrade was 'removed'.

What's the problem here? Whether you take an upgrade or buy the phone as a new customer (not normally much difference in price afaik) then you're straight back into a contract again anyway. Why would they be offering subsidised phones to people when they've no way of knowing what sort of return they might get?

    Back on topic:
I was in Liffey Valley yesterday and asked in the Three store when they would be getting the iPhones in and the girl said they were told "about two months". No launch day iPhone 4s for any Three customers saving their upgrades by the looks of it :(

Any upgrade with any operator is entirely at their discretion. They won't tell you exactly how it's calculated but usually its average spend over the last 12 months. The person's average spend probably just dropped below the upgrade level, bad timing probably!

I can't believe O2 are going to run another waiting list fiasco like last time!

So now we've two confirmed dates. The 24th and the 28th. :p

Actually, my average spend had increased. To be fair to O2 once I contacted them about this via their forum my upgrade 'reappeared'. probably some kind of computer glitch I suppose;)

just spoke with one of the lads i work with in amsterdam and he asked me if i could get him a phone in belfast as he cant wait till october.

told him holland same as ireland and launch date end of month, he says vodafone said to him that they have been told october due to demand.

I have already said it will be Novemeber before full market supply is up and running.

I believe they will have tiny numbers on July 28th just to say they did launch on schedule even it is to be a very very very limited launch.
