Played a round of golf yesterday and it was a very frustrating experience.
The ground was like iron, the greens were like iron ,there was a strong gale and it was impossible to stop the ball on the green.
I tried landing it short and letting it run on but it just bounced through the green.
I tried landing it on the green but it bounced through too.
Even short little chips around the greens were treacherous .
Using a ProV1 made no difference either.
3 greens in regulation was all I managed ,I'd normally hit 10-12 at least ,I'm a very good iron player.
Hopefully the rain today will soften things up.
Are other posters experiencing similar conditions and how do ye get the ball to stop ?

The doctor banned me from golf for a month last Monday due to a back injury, so I'd love to have your problems:)

put more spin on the ball or bump and run from 30 yards out

yeah was just gonna say I tend to zip them in and get them to stop on the 2 bounce or so, all well in good when they spin but when they dont your f.ucked. Its hard when they are as hard as they are but hey dont complain its because we have had good weather, rather that than playing in bogs:)

Does your club have sand based greens? Is your club a links course?

I've played plenty of golf in recent weeks on good courses who look after their greens and have not witnessed the "bouncing thru" phenomenom (except when the strong gale was behind us...)

Same here. Played 4 different courses over the last few weeks and haven't come across 'concrete' greens. Fairways are like runways alright but greens have been excellent

Played Hollywood lakes today , it was like playing on concrete .. My playing partner hit a cracking drive on a par 4 387yds , his 2nd shot was with a wedge from 50/60 yards , He took no pleasure in it as he knew it was down to the solid fairways , true to form he hit his 2nd through the green and had to settle for a par .

Its sand based greens allright, parkland course.
This phenomenon only seems to have appeared in the last 2 weeks ,up to then it was grand.
The greens were so hard that I didnt spot any pitchmarks yesterday ,very odd indeed, normally there would be a good few of them.

Not a bad idea but I prefer the back markers in this weather ;)

Main problem is from around 80-150 yards out ,inside that I can run them in .

I wasnt trying to be overly critical, just wondering if a high spin ball might help.

Could only manage to get to the driving range yesterday, outdoor bays were rock solid. Bring on the rain, could be with us for a good few days.

Why do clubs not use their (presumably expensive) sprinkler systems?
