Running after shoulder surgery

I have dislocated my shoulder several times over the last couple of years, and have been putting off the inevitable shoulder surgery! In November, I am finally getting an arthroscopic stabilisation which will hopefully prevent any future dislocations! My worry now is how long I will be out of running post surgery..I think I will crack up if it is several months. I have read reports that it can take anywhere up to six months to heal enough. Worried about losing all the fitness I've built up this year.Building up to the marathon in October, and dont want to start from scratch again next year:rolleyes:

Does anyone have any experiences of this operation??

Someone at my gym wrote a survival guide to getting through the recovery period from shoulder surgery. If I see her again I'll get the address.

Recovery does sound lengthy but maybe not tow months and you can probably find alternatives. Recumbent bike might be pretty low stress on the shoulder?
