UPC digital+ Are there different boxes available?

Hi,
I just got UPC digital+ installed and the noise out the box is really annoying. It is the black mediabox DVR. I was just wondering if there were different makes and model available and if so has anyone got a quiet one? Has anyone else had a problem with the noise levels? It is very noisy even when switched off. Thanks.

When you say switched off you mean standby and not plugged out right...?

It could be a faulty hard drive or fan, both of which could be very loud.

Thats okay; otherwise I would have had to suggest demonic possession or something!

Probably best to get a UPC engineer out to take a look at it. If it is faulty itll need replacing. By the sounds of what you said its likely it is faulty.

Yeah you would have had to move my post to Paranormal instead!! I am getting an engineer out to take a peek, thanks!! Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

The Cisco HD box is a lot quieter than the previous Thomson DVR (older silver one) we had. It's actually silent when in standby, except for some occasions when it starts up to look for updates or whatever.

Hi thanks I hoped there would be a quieter one out there somewhere The one I have is just as loud on standby than when powered on. Is the Cisco one a HD+ or just the normal DVR Anyhow appreciate the reply

It's HD, but HD+ costs the same as Digital+ (€5 extra a month, not an additional €5 extra on top of Digital+) and you don't need an HDTV to use it. Might be a challenge getting it if you're not in an HD area though.
