    ES

The ES trim level was the base level available for the European E46s. It included various safety features as standard equipment, such as anti-lock brakes, 6 airbags, dynamic stability control, and a factory installed alarm which were not common as standard features when the E46 was released.[22] Comfort items such as heated and electric mirrors were also fitted standard.[22] The ES trim did not include a leather interior standard, it was offered as an "at-cost" option.[22]
    [edit] SE

The SE trim level included the options the ES trim level was given, but added cruise control, electric adjustable front seats, headlight washers, parking sensors, and a full leather interior as standard.[22] It was the mid-range trim level that offered luxury items, but lacked the performance items the M Sport and M Clubsport trim levels had.
    [edit] M Sport

The M Sport trim level included the options given on the ES and SE trim levels, but had additional performance-orientated items added. It came with the "M-tech" I or II bodykits (depending on when the car was ordered), half leather-half alcantara sports seats, sports suspension, and 17" lightweight style 68 wheels.[22]

Not here, it didn't.:) Our SE had cruise, climate, rear parking sensors and different wheels, but both leather and power seats were cost options. AFAIK headlight washers weren't standard either, unless you went for the xenon or adaptive xenon headlights.

If you want to see naked, look at a standard ROI-spec 335i compared to its US equivalent!

ES cars are to be avoided. They feel nasty, no multifunction wheel and nasty rotary ventilation controls instead of climate.

I would take SE over M sport as I value comfort.

Me too, but the sports seats are IMO well worth having and they're hard to find on an SE. Whatever about spec, I think that car really needs an automatic.

    bloody Ireland :P

    Bloody UK you mean?

Only difference between Irish E90's and UK E90's is the speedo in KM/H.

Even the new cars I'm getting straight out of the dealers have their mileage reading in miles and fuel consumption in mpg.

Bring it back to the shop, BMW said its supposed to have a KPH Speedo.

The cars supplied will be ‘direct from the factory’ new cars with the usual Irish specification (including kph speedos).

Speedo is in KM's, odometer is in miles until you mess around changing it via the obc

actually, just on this, I bought a car in the UK a while back and the speedometer display to show how fast you are going is in MPH mainly and then small figures for KM

Is there anyone that would change this in to a KM dislpay only

Presume its just a matter of removing one plastic display unit for another ?

So more a less the SE is a better spec than the ES ?

    yes,

    ES - base level
    SE - one step up
    M-Sport - another step up

then you can add further options to all of the above, for example, my old ES had MFSW, CD Changer, Bluetooth Leather etc etc

The 320d SE is a lovely car to drive, fuel consumption is very good, I came from a Merc C180 2litre petrol and I am getting twice the distance from a full tank of juice with the 320D.
