My legs are holding me back!

I've been running for about 6 months now and started out by walking a bit then running a bit. I'm now able to run 5k(26mins my best) but sometimes my shins get really tight and I have to stop and stretch out. Its really annoying because my breathing is fine but this is really holding me back. When I stop and stretch my legs this tightness goes away and I can run again for another couple of k before I have to stop again.

My usual run is done on a flat surface in a park and I start it with a 5min brisk walk then run followed by another walk and then stretching. My runners are basic adidas runners. Could these be the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you may need to invest in some new runners. Although shin pain is a very common complaint with beginners it shouldn't really be persisting after six months at the level that you're at.

I'd say investing in a decent pair of runners might be a good start.

When I started running, pains in my shins were a constant companion (as well as twinges in my hamstrings, quads, achilles, ... you get the picture). Eventually, after a year or two of running, my legs got stronger and all those issues went away.

Yes that can be the case. I find its a vicious circle pains in the leg result in increase weight resulting in more pressure on the legs etc.
I suffered a lot with calf and shin problems and hope to see the back of them now. Main thing is finding the cause wrong runners excess weight etc

well. hows it goin? go into alfie hales with a clean pair of feet (lol) and ask for craig. hes the man. he is brilliant for deciding what kind of trainers you need . he puts you on a machine to anylyse your feet. also, if problems persisted , you could go to foot solutions in town and they could see if your feet are aligned properly.!!!! thats my two cents anyway:pac::pac:
