Noob... just bought some guns :)

Right, so I just bought my first two guns. I have never played Airsoft but will give it a go sometime soon. Have been reading up a lot about the games etc and they sound like a lot of fun.
Have more gear to get before that though.

    Anyway, my two guns are:

    Colt M4 CQBR

    G&G GR16 R4

Bought them second hand and am pretty happy with the purchase.

I have tons of questions about a variety of things, but I will post most of them separately.....ye'll be sick of me by next week :D

I have one, quite important, question for now though.

The M16 above. I did not get the scope with the gun. So, I am using the default sights to aim..... and they're not working. The gun (consistently) shoots approx 4 inches low from 10y away.
I know nothing about hop-ups etc yet, but I did play with it and nothing made much difference.

So, my assumption is that the sights are out. I need to lower the front sight or raise the rear sight. My problem is that I can't do either. The only adjustments I can make to the rear sight is left/right via a screw. There is no screw/dial to adjust the height of the sight. I cant make any adjustments to the front sight.

I plan to buy a scope for the gun anyway, but this seems a bit nuts. This is supposed to be an excellent gun...yet I can't modify the sights?
I can't understand it and feel like a twit even asking...... it's probably staring me in the face.

ps: the guy I bought the gun from only ever used it with a scope, so he hasn't been able to help me.

I'd appreciate any help at all.

Just checking, what range did you p;lay with the Hop up with?

What the ho up is, is there is a ring of rubber at the begining of the inner barrel where the pellet shoots out from.

The way it works is there is a small lever the pushes into the rubber, ocntacting the BB, and putting backspin on it. The more Hop, the more Backspin, and therefore the greater didtanc (but, in turn, less accuracy, because the BB will fly in an arc).

I don't know where it is in th G&G, but in the CQB it should be behind the Dustover (shown in Pic). When you open the Dustcover (again, not sure about the M16, as it looks like it's blowback, and therefore might be different) You shoudl see a small white cog (circle) that controls the Hop. I am not sure which way to turn it (as I haven't touched my M4 in a while) but I think it's clockwise=less hop, anticlockwise=more hop.

    Hope this helps.

P.S, yes, you were right, they are great AEGs

The dial for up/down adjustment that you pointed too. That's a picture of the gun, but that dial is either not there or I'm losing my mind. :o

Ya, I know where the hop up is and I did play around with it as I mentioned. I turned the dial from one end all the way to the other trying it at different times.
Cheers about the info on how it works.

    And it made no difference?

Not much that I could tell. All I was looking for was the bbs to fly higher and it didn't do that.

Checked the gun this morning. I'll have to email the guy these two pics...it appears something changed between them. That dial you pointed to earlier is NOT on the gun.

As you can see, no dial. Very different looking sight to the original picture.

Obviously its a whole different unit....lol, never really looked at that original picture properly.

You need more range to zero them in, 10yards isn't enough try 25 or so!

Are you talking about the hop up? or the sights?

So, is it basically the fact that I can't adjust the sight that's on the gun??

That screw in the picture moves it right/left. There appears to be nothing to adjust height.

If you fire the AEG at a longer distance you'll find the sites will match the path off the BB a bit better.

Hi Jimbling......that's a flip up rear sight.....with only left and right adjustment........your front site will have an adjustment to lower the front aiming pin down or up only.
There's a special tool for this adjustment but you can simply push down the spring loaded pin and gently adjust the pin with a narrow long nosed pliers.

When you adjust the hop up......turning the dial fully back towards you is off.....away from you is on.

If you're getting no adjustment on the hop up I'd suggest changing both the hop up sleeve and the hop up nub.

    Thanks Viper.

I've bought a red dot for my M4 gun, so can move the more advanced rear sight that's currently on the M4 to the M16 (I presume) until I get a scope for it.
