    Hey all,

    I've just had a thought.

I do a few reviews for smokerspack and something that has always interested me is the whole boy racer brigade and other motoring 'sub groups'.

I've never understood it but that could be from not ever being part of it.

I'll keep this short but I would love to review what you actually do on a night out.

I'm not talking about perfect cars which are souped up and kept for show I'm talking about startlets and civics which are driven around towns where everyone thinks they are class. (granted my opinion :))

Anyway I'm based in North Tipp and I would love to write an article about it all and I'm willing to travel to do it.

Please PM if you would like to have me along.

Also if you are from some other sub motoring group (classics, tractors, expensive souped up cars, or track cars, or anything else I don't know about) I'd love if you could PM me and I'd be happy to write up an article for all to read.

I'd also be very happy to do a ride along with some traffic corps or Gardaí.

I'm not going to pretend it will be all in favour of what you do but I really think it would make an interesting article for the site.

    John

If you are living in Nenagh, you wont have to travel far

There's no great mystery to it, they drive around and around and around, pull over, pop the bonnets, smoke a few ciggies, have a chat. Then drive around and around again. Would hardly make an interesting article really.

From my experience of being around these groups its just people who enjoy their cars and pull up to have a chat. Some people go to the pub to socialize, others prefer to sit in Tescos carparks in their cars which they have spent money, time and effort on. My sister (who would have been much more into the car parks and cruisin scene than I ever was) said that most people dont really drink, and instead prefer to spend the money on their cars, so I suppose its only logical that they should socialize with other likeminded folk and show off what they have been working on.

My first car was a 998cc Mini city. There was no hope of me getting insured on a Cooper, let alone being able to buy one, so I got the white roof and bonnet stripes put on, despite it not being a real Cooper. As my insurance used up a considerable chunk of my disposable income, I tended to drive instead of drinking.

So, in a nutshell: Couldn't afford to buy or insure the real deal, but was able to buy some bits and pieces here and there to tart it up a little.

Someone looked to do something like this before but it was a video thing. The general conensus was that whenever anyone does articals on nodded cars, they never make it look good.

TBH I drive a modified car and I wouldn't go to the Modified car meets because they are generally as bad as people think. I've been to one and swore never again. It's the meets in carparks that give modified car owners a bad name, the one I went to, all over the site was people saying there's to be no messing blah blah, then when I arrived all they were talking about was going to an empty truck park to race and do rings!

I find people that are more into shows, motorsport, track days etc to be a much better bunch. Just my 2c

All modifed car owners are lumped into this generalisation OP, so whatever questions you may have for me or anyone else here, don't expect it to relate to any of what Graham's said.

I didn't mean it to come across as a personal statement, it wasn't :o

Ah no I know. OP I find the the regular poster in the modded cars part of boards to be very genuine and really are into their cars.

Thanks for everyone who has posted so far.

I've had a couple of offers so I think we can sort something out.

I won't be doing anything in the next week about it as I'm heading off on holidays tomorrow but I just wanted to see if there was some interest in me doing it.

And for anyone who questions my motive for wanting to write such an article, its purely that I've never been part of the scene (I spend money on vitamin G every weekend :p) and have always wondered what it was all about. Lots of people complain about boy racers, others think it great they are spending their money in a good way and have an interest and some people like myself just haven't got a clue :D
