Is there any new stations on the analogue other than the 17 channels that I currently have.

No and there never will be.

The basic digital pack costs less then analog and you still keep the anaolg.

UPC do this so you are paying for Digital not analog and when they switch off the analog you can't complain.

You can get free home phone if you are still on analog http://www.upc.ie/freephone/phone_service/.

So you can stay analog and get free phone or go digital pay less and get more channels.

UPC want to turn off the analog so there will never be any extra channels on it.

I have UPC digital+ for the main TV in my living room. Main bedroom upstairs has the 17 analogue channels which I receive free.
Any idea what it would cost for digital in my bedroom?

    Thanks :)

There is no date things like a free phone or cheaper digital are there to try and tempt analog customers to pay for something else other then analog.

Basic Digital is only 20.75 per month and you can add an extra room for 5euro.

The reason UPC want to get rid of the analog is because it uses up a lot of bandwidth 10 digital channels or 4 HD channels can fit in the space a single analog channel uses.

All these offers are an attempt to keep current analog users once analog is gone.

You get all that for almost 5 euro less then analog and you can add an extra room for five euro.

5 euro per month all the same channels as your main box whatever package your on.

you would think the analogue would use less bandwidth than a digital channel. 20e a month + 5e for a extra room is nearly the same as paying for the analogue alone without the digital. great deal there.

No Digital is broadcast in the form of a data stream the a normal tv can not tune into only a Digital box.
It is far more efficient than analog it's like a VHS tape and a Blu Ray disc which one is bigger?:)

The package I posted above is 20.75 per month and you can add up to 3 extra rooms is 5 euro per month and you always get all the same channels as your main room.

If you are willing to pay more then 20.75 per month on your main room here is what you can get.

This pack is 30 per month.

This pack is 33.75 per month.

With digital they can get away with much poorer signals and cabling than with analogue. So its far less hassle.

Allowing people to pay by other means than direct debit without incurring a penalty charge would help

And it appears to impossible to find on their website .

Strangely enough  it is much easier to find any other package .

I upgraded to Digital+ HD and lost my analogue channels. I only have a TV in one room so didn't need the extra point but I was told by UPC that it isn't possible like it was on the old digital box to still have the analogue channels as well. It was handy for telextext which is crap on the Digital+_

You should have asked the technical reason for that. Because anyone I know has both. Though I they just have Digital+

That's the biggest turn-off of all. Direct debit? No thanks! If they removed the penalty cahrge then I bet more people would sign up to digital. Especially lower income people.

It's because the HD box doesn't have an RF loop-through output like the other boxes. If you want to get analogue reception again all you need is a 2-way splitter like this: http://cgi.ebay.ie/2-Way-Cable-TV-Splitter-5-1000MHz-F-Connector-Adaptor-/150467980631?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_ConEle_SatCableFreeview_RL&hash=item2308972d57

forgive my going slightly OT, but if analogue is still available once you've gone Digital, does that mean I can stick a splitter on the UPC cable, and feed into another TV and just get analogue stations?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,056 ✭✭✭✭BostonB

Its against the terms and conditions to do that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,638 ✭✭✭zilog_jones

From my experience, UPC couldn't care less about splitters and multiple analogue connections. It's pretty much unenforcable anyway.

could someone please post a list of channels you receive on the basic analogue package? im convinced im missing some channels like 3e and comedy central, but i get the package free (got the box on my house) so i dont really want to ring them up and complain!!

And on a slightly different note, does anyone on the analogue package experience problems with setanta and national geographic? my picture freezes for days/weeks, very annoying!!

    cheers
